Thanks emissionwiz.. I use both but I mean: which one is better to come first. I think break first is better to make pressure on P gear less but I am not sure.

Sorry again but my 2000 ford explorer transmission is automatic, so the question is: What is recomended when parking: first hand-breaking then putting gear in P? or vice versa?

Simple do you have to hold the break down to put the car in gear

You can try shifting the car out of park with the key switch unlocked but not in the on position.
The problem could be the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.

Ive just changed tne back breaks on my laguna now ive got no hand break

Hi There.
put the car back on axle stands and remove back wheels, check that all components are fitted correctly, (oversights are easy to do and a niusance when you realise). Unadjust the brakes and the unadjust the hand/parking brake, readjust the rear brakes so that they spin about one revolution by hand on both sides, (MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE EQUAL ON BOTH SIDES) when you are happy with that readjust the hand/parking brake, reinstall wheels and check hand/parking again, you should now have a hand brake,, ( adjust to between 5-7 clicks ) let me know how you get on..
Good Luck.

My 97 blazer wont go in gear

the trans receives a signal from a censer that tells it you have applied the break, which allows it to shift. do your break lights turn on when you push on the break?

I heard a loud pop, then the vehicle wont move in any gear.It then grinds when I try to put it in park.

It sounds like you broke a Constant Velocity joint (CV Joint). The pop was probably the joint breaking. When you put it in gear it's just spinning. Think of one of your hands as the transmission. Hold a pencil that would be the CV Joint(s) and axle, and use the other hand to hold the other end of the pencil. That's the front hub (part that makes the wheel turn). So you have ...hand, pencil...hand = trans, axle... wheel. If you hold the pencil firmly with both hands, and spin the pencil with one, both hands still move.

If the pencil breaks...the one not spinning does nothing.

So...The transmission is trying to make the van go, but the cv joint is broken, so the wheels aren't spinning. When you put the van in park, the transmission doesn't know the vans not moving. Therefore it's making the same noise as if you put the van in park while driving. If you must start the van and put it in gear to see if the driver's or passenger's axle is just spinning. Shut the van off, wait a minute for the axle shaft to stop spinning, and then put it in park.

Finding an interior light?

The bulb is under the gear selector.  To get to it, pull up sharply, straght up,on the gear handle.  It is best to do this while the car is off and the emergency brake is on, so you can shift into a better gear than PARK to take that handle off.  Then gently pry around the plastic plate with a flat screwdriver to loosen the plate, the bulb should be connected underneath.  When putting it back on make sure not to break any of the plastic tabs that hold it.  The gear handle goes back on by simply pressing it back on to the shaft completely.
