Check all grounds from battery to motor and battery to body for corossion. Also check motor to body ground strap for corossion under bolts. Bad grounding can cause all kinds of problems.

Wont start

If it's making clicking noise then that sounds and means that it's the starter... Nothing else makes it click when turning the key, then the starter... If it was the Alternator it wouldn't hold the charge... You could try with jumper cables to turn it on then removing the negative terminal from the battery... If it turns off then it's the Alternator... Those are two possible solutions... Keep with the updates.

Car Battery

You have probably triggered the antitheft system.

Relearn Procedure

  1. Turn the key on, with the engine OFF.
  2. Try to start the engine, then release the key to ON, Engine will not start.
  3. Watch the security telltale, after about 10 mins, it will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. You must turn the ignition OFF for 30 seconds before attempting to start the vehicle after the 3 cycles. Then start the engine .

This morning when I attempted to start my 2006 Hummer H3, nothing happened. I thought I may have a dead battery but the lights and radio work fine. I then noticed the Passlock security lock light was on...

Hello:Try this procedure: turn key on, turn to start, let key come back to on wait ten minutes, turn key off wait 10 seconds turn key back on wait 10 minutes. turn key off wait 10 seconds turn key back on wait 10 minutes turn key off wait 10 seconds NOW try and start. In addition you might try tapping on switch assembly while trying to start. There is not any way to disable passlock. You might try having the engine control system codes read

Engine won't turn over, no clicking or anything. Total silence. Battery terminals have been cleaned, battery is newer...... when ignition is turned on, air conditioning runs, lights do not dim, radio works...

try giggling the shifter or starting it in neutral--possible interlock switch failing. Also could be your anti-theft system--try using other factory key

I have a 1998 Chev Tahoe and I'm replacing the keylock cylinder. I'll prob have a prob. with the passlock system. How do I program the key to work?

Well, this is how it's supposed to work but I have had to resort to using a GM specific scan tool when I couldn't get it to relearn.
1. With vehicle in Park, turn the key to the crank position briefly [do not start engine but just bump the starter so the engine turns over about 1/2 a turn] then release the key and let it remain in the "run" position. The security light should flash for a few seconds then stay on for about 10 minutes.
2. At the end of about 10 minutes, the security lights should go off so watch closely. Once it goes off turn the ignition key "off" for about 10 seconds then repeat step 1 two more times which should add up to about 30 minutes total of time spent.
3. After you have finished the 3rd of the 10 minute cycles, leave the key off for about 20 seconds then try and start the engine. If it starts...you should be ready to go. If not, then you may need to have someone with a scan tool help you out. Like I say, it SHOULD work but I have found some aftermarket key cylinders that I just can't get to relearn so you may need an OEM cylinder [I would suggest it actually]
Good luck, hope this helps you out.

Lights left on, battery totally flat, will not

You've probably flooded it then - TOO much gas in the engine.
Try this charge the battery or use a GOOD one, and beofre yout turn the key push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there. Then try and start without lifting your foot. Crank for 20-30 seconds at most.
Do that about 2-3 times, then try to start normally.
Holding your foot stops more gas from entering the engine and allows the gas in there to be cleared out.
Flooding is way easy and then can make starting very hard. You have to be aware of this when trying to jump start a dead battery.
