Hi as far as im aware their should be no reason why this would happen, the only reason it would cut out is if the imobiliser was coming on but this would only happen if their was a problem with the key or the imobilser the part you have changed dont need programing as it gets its data from the car so it would not affect the running of the car, check all connections are secure as a loose connection could cause the problem so i would unplug the connecters and check they are not damaged or loose and try again, other than that the only problem could be faulty display but i cant see this shutting the engine down unless their was a short of some type, this would only happen due to faulty connection so check these first.

let me know what you find or if you need further assistance.

if you take it to garage they will more than likely try a new display and see if that has the same problem if it does then the fault will be with a connection but without having another display to try then you wont really know.

if the old display lets the car run fine then it would suggest their is a fault with the display you have fitted such as a short or damaged connector for the wires

Yes. The speedo must be paired with the car and this requires to have some of the computers reprogrammed at the dealer or to an advanced independent shop with an up to date VAG (VW/Audi scan tool )

Then, as i said, take it to another repair shop that has the VAG scan tool - it will be a lot cheaper.

Hi there, I have a VW Golf GTI 2000 model.. and...

You'll probaly need a new speedo head. Just remember to record your original mileage to the new speedo you'll need to hook up a VAG 1552 scan tool and set it up. NOTE: It has to be below 100mi or else it will permanently lock up and unable to record your original mileage.

2000 VW BEETLE WILL NOT START

when you try starting the car look at the gauge cluster, you will most likely see a small emblem light up that has a picture of a key in it. that is the immobilizer light and the problem is it doesn't recognize the key as it's own so it won't start thinking it is being stolen. try all the keys you have if none of them will work and all set that light off it will have to be towed into your local dealer to have it all recoded.

Electronic immobilizer

most likely cause is the gauge cluster, this will have to be tested and service by your local dealership because the dash cluster and keys have to be coded. I have seen the immobilizer loose it's coding for apearantly no reason. therefore have them recode cluster and see if problem goes away, if it doesn't the gauge cluster will have to be replaced.

My speedometer needle is stuck at 140mi mark

when the car is parked and running what does the speedometer read? if "0" it is most likely the speedo transducer<mounted in tranny> if holding still it reads anything higher than "0" it is the speedo itself which requires dash cluster replacement. if that is the case will need to go back to dealer so new dash cluster can be coded to the car.
