Hi, my tayota 1997 Rav4 does not start and the mecanic stated that it is the electric box. How the electric box got damage and how much is the part. Please help me the mecanic said that the part alone would cost me $1,400. I do not have any other means of transportation and I am 73 years old. Thanks, and God Bless.

It's a non - interference engine, you should be right with a new timing belt.

I don't have a 1997 Toyota RAV4 so I can't tell you exactly but it is on the fuel rail that connects all the injectors to the fuel system.

Timing mark is on the harmonic balancer on the crank.

sound like ignition system getting wet.make sure long rubber seal below windshield cowl in place because rain water can run down winshield by the cowl get under hood damp ignition and electrical system check make sure long rubber seal in place not damaged or missing.

First thing you should do is to locate the Fuse Panels.They are located on the left of steering column covered possibly by a cover. Also there is a Fuse panel under the hood also covered by panel or Box Cover. The computer unit is probably not blown,Fuses are placed in vehicles for just this very type issue,to prevent Power Surges from damaging Computer units or other electrical components. Check every fuse there is a tester available that is not expensive to insure you change the blown one...thats the first place to start.

Yes there is also a fuse box under the hood. The schematic for fuses should be in the fuse box cover.

1st to do,check transmission oil level

1. air filter dirty. 2. bad engine ground. 3. fuel filter 4. loose connection in ignition system. 5.faulty idle control system.

You can find the fuse box either under the Driver's side of the dashboard or in the Engine compartment.
