Hi CamI hate to say it but there is a good chance one of the gears inside the transmission/transaxle is having an issue... You can see if a transmission fluid change will resolve this issue for you however I have similar issues with my transmission and after about 2000km for me i have the same issue. In this case my transmission is at this point damaged it works and will continue to work but it isn't great on the car or for the drive.
With the price of the vehicle dropping you could look for a junk car which still has its transmission (ensure same make and model) and put that into your vehicle but to be honest the cost of the installation and replacement isn't worth it.

Transmission not shifting as it should

Sounds like when you pulled the cv axles you may have unplugged an electrical connector or vacuum line from the transmission. If this is not the case, did you make sure the transmission fluid levels are proper?

My 2008 cadillac cts with automatic transmission doesn`t want to go into drive.

Sounds like the shift cable has slipped or stretched when you forced it in reverse. I would check that before removing the trans pan. Make sure to leave the park brake on, Remove the cable from the transmission, usually just one nut. After doing that see if you can shift the transmission with your fingers or a pair of pliers. If so, then the problem is in the cable/linkage and not the trans. Hope this helps

Drive it slowly to a reputable transmission shop. There is nothing you can fix yourself.

I had trouble with what seemed like a transmission on my ford van. Was told by a master mechanic to disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable for 5 minutes to reset computer. I did this, it worked & never had another problem with it. Maybe it will work in your situation. Doesn't cost anything to try!:)

Doesn't seem to be shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

It sounds like a transmission valve is sticking. Try getting some seafoam for transmissions. It should be available at any auto parts store. They will probably even put it in for you.

Runs fine in town.get it on highway runs fine until i come off highway stop at light trans starts slipping.park over night and it runs fine

It sounds like there is an internal hydraulic leak that occurs only when the transmission is hot. It is probably time to go through it and do an overhaul.

The transmission is in "D" but the tach is showing as if it's in "2". It's not shifting as it normally would in "D". I put it in "2" and it there's no change. I put it in park then neutral and that all...

Your shift indicator is simply stuck. Until you have the time to fix it, your best solution is to start from park then slowly shift to the next setting which is reverse, then neutral then park. All automatic transmissions shift pretty much the same which means you only have to move 3 notches the opposite way from park to be in drive. You don't need a shift indicator for that. Later you can replace the indicator with a dealer factory replacement.
