I have the same problem with my 96 Taurus, the driver side window will go down but at times will not go up. Its funny because when it gets cold at night it works fine. But when the car frame get hot during the day it starts to just click when I push the Automatic down button. I read in my car manual that there is a resistor in line with that connection and there is also a auto down relay located under the arm rest. Here is a link I found http://home.comcast.net/~crazdcoug/autow...

This web page is the best I found that actually show a picture of this hidden relay. I have yet to find it on my car because I did not see it when I took the motor out and cleaned the brush contact area. I will have to remove the door panel again search for it. Hope this helped some. There a real pain to find.

Check the 10 amp fuse for Battery Saver under the dash next to the brake pedal on the left. Just replaced mine and it took care of it. That's only if all 4 windows won't work.

Hey I was trying to trouble shoot a power drain and found in my manual a relay under the dash that is called "Battery saver relay". It works the windows and courtesy lights. If it is just one windoe that isnt working it is definately the motor for that window or the switch for it. Hope that helps you!

Mine is doing the same thing...does your window make a clicking noise when you push the switch down? I can't figure out what the problem might be...motor, relay switch or fuse....does anyone have any ideas??

If only one window is not working, loosen the window motor to relieve tension on the gear.
Remove door panel, then locate the 3 access holes for the motor bolts. You will need a 1/4" drive socket set to reach the bolts. Loosen the bolts enough so you can move the motor from the gear on the window bar. If you unbolt the motor completely, it may be difficult to get the bolts back in the proper place. You can use silicone or grease on the bolts to hold it in the socket while you position the motor.
Secure the bolts and test the window before replacing the door panel.

I tried the solution below recommending the 10A fuse replacement. Second fuse blew. Turns out the battery saver relay was bad.

Hi, My 1996 Taurus driver window just wouldn't go up. I undid the door panel and wiggled the wires to the motor and it went right up. But... the transmission just revs now and the car will not go forward. Reverse still works. One dealer repair technician said it was two different things but another different Ford dealer technician said the windows are inline - or connected to the transmission sensor (something like that, I am researching now) and is part of problem.

Try hitting it where the buttons are or where the handle is while holding the button in the up position. I did it and its worked ever since. I tried to explain to my wife it's the switch and it can go out anytime but she keeps rolling it up and down !!!

    Hardheaded woman !

Still havent fixed mine really sucks when it rains.
mine doesnt make any noise so your one step up on me. yours is probably off the slider in door or its slipping. your motor should be fine if you hear noise.

Dear Customer,

You must have buy a excact part as they need for poweer windows ,so may be possible that you bought wrong configured relay,so 1 more sugestion to you is you have to buy that relay from your car branded shwroom or service center for exact configuration.

so take care of your car power systems, take time but will solve,

I don't know anything about your vehicle but I do know I bet the makers, the assemblers who assembled your car at the factory and auto elections know what's wrong. Researching libraries the manuals for your car in stock can be a help as web pages including youtube may have some interesting videos on your problem.

Drivers side window (power) quit working. all other windows work fine. what am I looking at. fude? regulator? motor? Is the regualtor and motor together in in this model? 2004 Ford Taurus SEL

Try this....
Open the door, turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine and everything that makes noise is off. Lean down placing your ears close to the bottom center of the door or at the speaker grill. Press the window switch UP and DOWN. Listen for the window motor. If heard the drive is damaged. If not heard, turn key off and locate and replace the relay with one of the other window relays. Check window again. If it works now, get a new relay. Sometimes, removing the motor and turning it by hand will get it working good as new. I have had to do that with Brand New motors! So try it.
If all has failed, with the door panel still off, check for voltage at the motor connector when pushing the window switch. No voltage means its the switch, especially if its a auto down or up switch.

Window fuse's and relay's may be up under drivers side dash or next to battery.
Drivers door window gets used the most so it could be the motor, window switch, relay or fuse.
Could also be a broken wire in the rubber boot going from the door to the body. You will have to eliminate each till you find the culprit.

Power window driver window stop working!

There are many reasons an electric window can stop operating. It could be a broken wire, a malfunctioning control switch, a bad window control relay, a bad window lift motor or a broken window regulator.

Passenger side window wont go up? Was working perfect until last nite just quit. all other windows work.

If both window switches on the driver's side and passengers side do not work most likely it is the Power Window Regulator. You will need to remove the passengers door panel and remove the plastic water shield and check the voltage at the regulator connection. If it has a voltage when the window switch is pressed then you can order the regulator at the below link, or if you can find it cheaper or locally you can purchase it from them.

The windows on my 96 taurus will not roll up?

check the fuses and relays per your owner manual.
Is it all windows from master switch?
do individual windows work from their own switches?

could be your accessory delay relay in fuse box under hood.

My 96 ford explorer power window will not work

TRY CHECKING THE SWITCH. WITH A TEST LIGHT, THERE WILL BE A WIRE THAT IS HOT. WHEN YOU PRESS THE WINDOW BUTTON, SEE IF ONE OF THE OTHER WIRES GET POWER TO IT. IF YOU GET A WIRE THAT LIGHTS UP ON THE BACK OF THE SWITCH WHEN YOU PUSH THE BUTTON, THEN THAT MEANS THE SWITCH IS WORKING AND THE MOTOR NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. IF ONE OF THE OTHER WIRES DON'T GET POWER THEN THE SWITCH IS BAD. HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA.

Switch window master

You have a short circuit in the window circuits or a bad motor. They quit working because they are on a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. After the circuit breaker cools down, the windows start working again. You might be able to isolate the problem to a certain door if it only does it when you try to roll down a certain window.

96 taurus wagon interior lights and power windows

just a guess but Id look for a bad chasis ground. I say this cuz the interior light switch for the door is a normally- open - grounding. The test for this theory would be to run a jumper wire from the neg batt terminal to the body, or from the eng to the body/chasis.
