Question about Chrysler PT Cruiser

1 Answer

Last week i removed the battery terminals on my 2001 PT Cruiser so that I could clean off some of the corrosion. However when i reattached the battery the key less entry, power locks and alarm system don't work. I tried removing the terminals, waiting a few seconds and reconnecting but it didn't work. All fuses are fine. Any suggestions?

#1 Check your ground or corrosion at battery terminals if OK try adding an additional ground strap or cable to body of vehicle make sure you clean surface that means remove paint where cable is grounded.

#2 If you have an aftermarket radio or sound system or anything aftermarket that is not original check that also.

Very important if terminals are not corroded splice both batt cables about 1" back and inspect under insulator for corrosion if there is any replace batt cables

Battery keeps draining

Most likely battery cables are corroded. are bad battery. Some stores will not clean corrosion off terminals unless you tell them. Check that fog lights are going off if you have them.

I went to start my 2005 PT Cruiser and got a loud clicking sound and it won't turn over. Is it the starter?

probably not sounds like either a dead or weak battery or bad connections on the battery posts. first take battery cables loose clean terminals and hook back up hopefully then it will start. or use jumper cables and see if it will jump start. if it jump starts then you no its not starter.if it doesnt jump stsrt then clean posts and cable ends and try again. hope this helps. best of luck

My 2006 pt cruiser battery light is coming on. What does this mean?

There is a problem in the charging system. Either your battery is not holding a charge anymore, or your alternator is dead. The first thing to do is check the alternator. turn on the car and then remove the negative battery terminal. If the car shuts off immediately after disconnecting the battery then your alternator is bad and needs to be replaced. If it stays on, then your alternator is OK, you then need to remove the battery and go have it tested at your local auto parts store. Also have all the battery cables checked for corrosion as well, if they're hard and frayed then replace those as well.

I have a 2006 pt cruiser sometimes it has a hard start and can / doesn't want to start and other times it will go for weeks without any problems i had a mechanic look at it and he said he thought it...

Look at your battery terminals and see if there is corrosion. I had the same problem with my 06 pt. It turned out that the positive cable going to the starter was corroded internally. was replaced and now no more hard starting.

How do I replace the battery on my 2004 pt cruiser?

Steps to replace the battery

Air Cleaner Removal

1. Loosen the air intake hose clamp (with a flathead screwdriver), which holds the intake tube to the air box lid.

2. Once the hose clamp is loosened, pop open the two spring-loaded clamps on the left and front side of the air box. The clamps help secure the lid to the air box. On the back of the air box lid there are 4 plastic slots, which match up with 4 corresponding tabs on the air box. In order to unhinge the lid from the air box, slide the lid away from you about an inch and gently lift the lid up. Ensure that the lid is free from the air box hinge; then carefully disconnect the air intake hose from the lid at the hose clamp and remove the lid from the engine compartment.

3. Lift the air filter out of the air box. 4. Disconnect the PCV hose from the lower air box.

5. The lower air box is removed by just tugging straight up on it. It will pop out as it's held in place by two rubber pins that wedge into the indentations in the plastic air box.

Battery Removal

6. Disconnect the battery terminals - negative 1st, the positive. 7. Remove the anchor bolt at the base of the battery using a 1/2" socket. 8. Lift battery out (with a battery carrier strap). Save the thermal blanket wrap to slip on the new battery.

Cleanup and Installation

9. Clean the terminals by dipping in a cup filled with baking soda and warm water. Use a battery terminal cleaning tool, wire brush to remove the corrosion or a tiny screw driver to scrape with. Rinse with water and clean up the tray with a towel.

10. Install the thermal blanket on new battery. Note the position of the notches on the blanket when replacing it. Lift into car and slide the battery as much as possible towards fender. Reinstall retaining bolt.

11. Install felt washers ($1) to prevent corrosion on the terminals

12. Reinstall terminals (positive 1st, then negative). Apply some grease or Vaseline to the tops of the terminals.

13. Reinstall air cleaner box. Carefully line it up and push down Make sure to seat it completely when you reinstall it.

14. Reinstall filter; cover. Make sure clips are on tight.

Thank you for using fixya and good luck

2002 PT Cruiser battery removal

If you have a 2.4L LE or BE PT Cruiser, you need to remove the air filter housing by removing the clip. The tricky part is that the battery is held down by a clamp that requires you to remove the main electrical box and base. it looks harder than it is because it is simply two rubber grommets anchored to a metal plate. you can reach your hand underneath and feel for them, then push them upward through the anchor holes to release the base. you will see the clamp that holds the battery in place, just remove the two bolts that are holding it down and replace the battery with a new on and reverse the procedure
To prevent corrosion, generously cover the battery terminals with petroleum jelly. Yes Vaseline®!

2006 PT cruiser dies intermittently---batery light dies no wiper

Sounds as if the alternator is not charging the battery. Check the alternator for voltage it should put out around 13 volts at idle and normal operation. If it charges then the battery is defective. A good place to start is clean the battery cables to remove any corrosion and make good contact. Many an electrical problem has been solved by cleaning battery cables.
