Question about 2001 Ford F150 Styleside SuperCrew
PO171 is a lean fuel mixture fault code. It is not serious in most cases engine will run for years to come. The problem is caused by too much air or not enough fuel getting to the combustion chambers of the engine. There are so many causes that its hard to nail this one down. Basically your engine is sucking air in somewhere it is not supposed. Any vacuum leak will cause that. There are a lot of vacuum lines. These is usually a vacuum line diagram under the hood that will show you were they are. Also your EGR valve may not be working correctly. In smone cases the engine is pulling vacuum through valve stem seals and intake manifold gaskets. Vacuum lines and EGR are not very hard to check out as they are external engine parts. Gaskets and valve stem seals will require disassembling major parts of the engine.
