The light can go on for something relatively inexpensive like a bad impact sensor to something large like a bad air bag or computer. You won't be able to tell until it's scanned and diagnosed. Keep in mind when the air bag light is on or flashing that the system is deactivated and won't deploy the bags in the event of a collision.
