Question about 1996 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

I have a 96 suburban 350 vortec. I was told I should have the injector lins replaced below the intake. I was told they harden with age and break and cause the motor to blow. My truck runs as new with 227,000 miles. Should I go through the expense to have the lines replaced?

Ok I am wondering if my motor in my 91 gmc 5.7 l b8 is a vortec or a 350 it has throttle body carb and not sure thought if I could interchange it with an older 350 ..

Here, is what I think you are asking. The TBI intake from a 91 will fit the same size engine from 88 to 95. The Vortec didn't come out till 96 I believe. So if your 91 is the original engine then it is not a Vortec motor. If you want to swap your 5.7 with another 5.7 (5.7 = 350) Then the 88-95 should work, Just double check your sensors and locations as the plugs may be different and or in different locations. I know my 88 GMC and my 94 chevy (both K1500's) were a little different. Hope this helps.

When we fist start up it backfires though the carb and when we get on down the road it clears up and when it gets hot it comes back and i have a 96 suburban ss vortec 454 4x4

The temperature sensor needs to be replaced it is telling the computer to send mtoo much fuel to the injectors and this will cause backfiring. When it warms up it should run fine.

I have a 96 chevy 2500 5.7 vortec with bad poppet valves, can i change to a throttle body intake from a 95. both are pre obd 2

You can't change the intakes on it. The 1995 throttle body and the efi that they used on the 96 up are totally differant. In 1996 when they went to the vortec motors they changed the heads. the 96 up only have 8 bolts to bolt the intake to the motor and are totally differant angles on the bolt holes. the 87-95 centerbolt head motors had 12 bolts to hold the intake down. Also the 96 should be odb 2 by government compliance. 95 was a split year but 96 up should be odb 2. If you do a search online you should be able to find the new injector or alot of time you can just get the poppets.Either way in the long run you will be better off fixing what is the rather than trying to convert.

I own a 96 chevy k1500 5.7 l vortec and have a no 5 cyl misfire

It could be a faulty fuel injector, try running a fuel injector cleaner through your fuel system. At worst the poppet nozzle has gone bad and will need to be replaced, you can buy the poppet nozzle it self individually at Auto Zone or buy upgrade MFI system which is much better and less pron to fuel leaking room a cracked poppet line or nozzle which will cause what you have described.

I need to know where the fuel injector is located on my 97 tahoe 5.7

The 96'-98' vortec 350 has 8 fuel injectors that are contained inside the intake manifold. the vortec uses whats called csfi which is called central sequential fuel injection it has 8 electronic fuel injectors and 8 mechanical ones these are the ones that deliver the fuel.

Swap a 86 350 into a 91 camaro with a 305 TBI

good idea, use 350 block,305 heads &intake.the reason is, if the 91 305 heads are 4 bolts in center of valve cover the are what you call vortec heads, they have better flow.the tbi will respond better &still have bettergas milage than old style heads.the 350 block will add more overall power.you shouldnt have any problems doing so,you will notice a diff.have fun, good luck.
