Question about Hyundai Tucson

I have a hyundia tucson 2006 deisel which has been absolutly fine until a couple of days ago when it suddenly went into limp mode and the EML started flashing, there has been no sign of any problem prior to this. my car has got 64,000miles on it. I took the car for diagnostics and the fault code found was PO299 which said turbo under boosting, does this mean that the turbo has gone or may it be something else??

The garage informed me that it wasn't likely that the turbo would need replacing as there was no sign prior to limp mode, he told me it maybe the cable needs replacing

Theresa,
Turbo under boosting means that the turbo is not supplying enough diesel to the cylinders. And thats how it goes into a limp mode as you say. This could mean an obstruction in the supply chain. which can be cleaned/cleared. The turbo does not go so soon. But it may require servicing alright.

Theresa, You are not a dopey Theresa if you ask. We all have similar doubts but are afraid to ask clarifications. Only some do and we all benefit from them. Anyway, what you ask him is what exactly will he do and what if his therapy fails. And what cables does he intend replacing when there are none in a diesel. Diesels have pipes carrying diesel and probably some of them may be choked or blocked. They may need cleaning but not replacing. Servicing means that the system is cleaned and if need be some parts may be replaced.repaired if possible.

Turbo under boosting = the pressure that the turbo generates is way below what it should. This can be caused by only 2 things:
1 - the pop-off valve is stuck open.
or
2 - the turbo doesn't spin fast enough.
In either case the turbo is defective and must be professionally rebuild.

The only time a vehicle goes into limp mode is when there is ****** problems, so I would take it to the ****** shop for code retrivel and if I am not wrong there might be problem with the Input/Output speed sensors BUT do have it checked first.
