In modern engines the linkages between the cam lobes and the valve stems have the 'lash' (general looseness) taken up by hydraulic lifters. These are oil pressurised syringe like devices that expend due to oil pressure. On cold days the oil initially has increased viscosity and it takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute to pressurize these lifters. Until they become pressurized you will encounter same taps and clatter fro the valve train and this is absolutely fine. If you ever have persistent clatter when the engine is hot this is often a sign of bearing wear or piston slap. You say your oil is little low, again not to worry too much, but not too low to register on the dip stick. Try not to overfill the oil as it will be churned and foamed by the crank action and then be carried over in the positive crankcase pressure release system to the inlet manifold creating lots of smoke and potentially fouling the plugs.

Sounds like the hydraulic valve lifters are on the way out causing the ticking noise. In the past I have been sucessful using a top-end lubricant such as Marvel Mystery Oil added to the crank case which extended the life of the lifters for many months

My 2006 chevy equinox has no heat changed thermostat bled the radiator system im getting a little bit of heat Then I get cold air then starts getting warm again then cold What could cause this?

Are you sure you bled all the air out of the cooling system? This is the symptom of trapped air. There should be little bleeder valves on the engine near the thermostat, they kind of look like front end grease fittings. Open them up while filling and have the front of the vehicle raised to help the air escape.

Have a 96 Buick Park Ave. In Aug I changed the thermostat because the temp gauge showed the motor was running cold. nothing changed. In Sept I had the water pump replaced because it started leaking. M

Is your 3800 producing normal heat? If so, the temp sensor is probably bad...If not, try replacing the radiator cap...if your system has air trapped inside, it usually runs hot, not cold...the heat is the key to functioning properly for you...Your radiator is a 4 stage huge system that normally cools very well...if you have heat, I still think your temp sensor is bad...ask to see one at your parts store, will help you to locate it. Hope this helps.

How do i check the thermostat on a 2004 pacifica

Start the engine (cold start) until 'warm'. Turn off the engine and check the hoses. If one hose is cold then the coolant is not circulating. You may have a bad thermostat. If your radiator fan turns on and off it is also a sign of the thermostat. Otherwise check for leaks it may be a bad water pump.

NO HEAT 2000 buick lesabre

If this Buick has a 3.8L, there are air bleed valves that must be opened to ensure the cooling system does not develop an air lock. (Wich would cause a no heat condition). If the thermostat is functioning properly you may want to check if there is flow through the heater core. Check by feeling each heater hose at the firewall with engine at opperating temp. They should both be hot and close in temp. A noticable temp difference in the two hoses would most likely be a flow problem, either from an air lock, bad t-stat or plugged heater core. Good luck.
