Question about 1992 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

Mitsubishi Galant I have a '92 galant. It seems to be running hot but not really overheating. No water in the oil but loses water sometimes. New radiator & thermostat. Also is straining when accelerating. What could be wrong?

It could be head gasket, the water could be leaking into the cylinder/s. Is there excessive steam coming out of the exhaust?

It sounds like the water pump belt under the timing belt is broken or the pump is not circulating the anti freeze the way it is supposed to.Did you replace the water pump, water pump belt, and timing belt when you replaced the head gasket? If a vehicle is over 100,000 miles it is recommended to replace the water pump while doing the timing belt just because the pump is such a pain to get to under the timing belt.

I have a 2000 mitsubishi,its overheating,i admit i haven;t had an oil change in a while,i took my thermostat out,tried that for a little bit,then i replaced it with a new new one,i admit i din't run the...

not positive unless i done some checks but i would hazard a guess and say head gasket, but i would have to do some checks first to confirm ,forget the oil in water thing i would suspect a blow between two compression rings so its only running on 2+a bit cylinders this would cause loss of power and overheating.

I've got a squeaky belt upon starting the 2001 Galant

There should only be about 1/2" deflection on the belts if you push down with your fingers. If they are ok i would suggest you investigate your alternator first , then last resort water pump bearing.(new water pump)

Has it overheated lately?
My wife overheated our Galant and it just stopped working, it cranks but that's it.
I pulled the sparkplugs and found them wrapped in a gewey jelly like substance. Like an oil/antifreeze combo.
I am going to replace the entire motor for $1000 as taking it to the mechanics to theorize and practice may cost more.
