Question about 1986 Ford F 350

1 Answer

Jus purchased this 1986 Ford F350 Dually. Turned a corner today...it just died and won't start. We replaced the ignition module, checked the fuel pump..it is working fine. It turns over, but it won't start. We also checked distributor and timing chain...no problems. We are at our wits end! Any suggestions? BTW, it has the 460 motor. Thanks...Kathy

Is it possible this truck is simply flooded out? Have you tried holding the gas pedal all the way to the floor and attempt to start? If it is flooded, it should crank a few times, stumble to life, then start to rev. At that point, let your foot off and you should be good to go. You may need to adjust or rebuild the carb, though.

Make sure you are getting spark to any one of your spark plugs. take the cover off your distrubutor and make sure it spins when you turn it over.... the rod on mine was broken and could not tell. are yu sure you are getting gas, filter could be clogged... poor a couple of ounces directly into carburetor, it should run for a couple of seconds....

Have a 1986 F350 4wd crew cab with a 460 , A couple months ago I replaced the coil , plugs roter and cap it was running great . This afternoon I tried to start her up it cranks but won't start .

So start by checking for spark and fuel. If no spark or fuel you will need to troubleshoot that system further but before we can do that you need to verify if you have both of those.

I replaced the fuel filter on my 1995 F350 ford dually. It ran ok before, but now the fuel pump does not provide enough fuel for the engine to run above idle speed. It starts, runs for about 15 to 25...

Usually on a fuel filter there is an arrow indicating inlet (making sure it was placed on correctly). Can you purge the line by cranking the engine (safely) with out the fuel filter ?. Did you purge the fuel rail ?
