Question about 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser

1 Answer

Hi have a 1996 Prado automatic. When the over drive button is depressed it changes erratic, you can be traveling along at say 100 kph & it will change gear randomly. Have had the oil changed with new filter, the trans flushed, & fault codes checked. A code was found for the trans & the Toyota dealer replaced a sensor which has made it a lot worse than it was. It also holds in gear longer than it should when you drive normally. Any help would be great. Thanks

    Thanks for your response!!

No doubt, this is a problem associated with the transmission. You need to go to the dealer and get it scanned once again to make sure that there are no trans code. The PCM is the one that controls the overdrive while monitoring various sensors. A dealer needs to check the solenoid as well as all the sensors. Throttle position sensor ( TPS ) signal must not be erratic. They also need to check the signal from TPS or APPS. Erratic TPS signal. It would be a tough and exhaustive job that needs to be taken care by the dealer.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

2010 ranger when im in town driving at twenty five or thirty do i need to leave transmission in or out of overdrive when exactly should i use the overdrive button????

it is immaterial when the over drive is to be used
If the constant shifting is annoying you then switch it off
The over drive is just that
an extra high final gear in the transmission to reduce the engine rpms at high speed to save fuel . It can be set for automatic engagement or turned of if pulling heavy trailers or caravans or carrying full loads and so save wear on the transmission

How do you use the the four wheel drive gear on a 1998 prado

prado has a fulltime 4wd. you can use the 4wd in any speed but preferrably stop before the shifting to the 4wd mode. if you are using an automatic transmission, put it to neutral before changing the 4wd mode. each mode depends on the surface you are travelling. on pavement the 4 low setting is an advantage for drivers who need to tow and maneuver a heavy trailer. select 4WD high on snow and for easy to moderate off-road (dirt roads, easy trails).

1981 corvette speedo reading wrong speed

The most like ly reason, which is what happened to mine, there is a small gear in the transmission that causes this problem and usually becomes a problem after any work has been done there. It is a cheap fix and your local police station can let you know of the best place to go.
