There are two on the 4.2L. Both are mounted on the intake side (left side) of the block. One towards the front, one towards the back. They are down low on the block. Just small matchbook sized black boxes bolted to the block with an electrical connector.

the knock sensors are located on the cylinder heads. the connect to the wiring harness almost directly in the middle of the intake manifolds on the center of the top of the engine. The knock sensor is located Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, driver side of intake manifold, mounted in engine block. Here is a picture of what you are looking for to help you out: 8da78c7.jpg
It basically looks like a big nut with an electrical plug-in in the end of it. Please let me know if you have any more questions and remember that this is mounted on the engine block. Thanks for using FixYa!

You need to change the knock sensor. The knock sensor advances or retarts timing until spark knock is eliminated. If the wire is not connect to the knock sensor you will get the knock sensor code. So make sure the wire is connected to the knock sensor. Please let me know what happens.
