Most of the time it means the batteryiss'nt being charged and it won't be long and even a good battery will go dead. the altenators conn and brushes will wear all the way out at 80 to 130 thousand milesw depending on ow hard a life it's lived. A rebuilt altenator will fix it but the fuses better be good and have the old unit tested at the parts store before you go buying a new one as thiers other reasons it'll turn the light on/

Codes 700,562 on 02 dodge intrepid, plus battery icon comes on when start

To begin with, the code numbers you listed are NOT valid OBD-2 Diagnostic Test Codes (DTCs). If you mean P0562, P0700, etc. then you need to post it like that so somebody can look it up.

Then, if your battery icon is staying lit after the engine has started, this is an indication that you have charging system problems. You need to fix any starting/charging system problems FIRST before trying to diagnose ANY computer fault codes. If there is a charging system problem, you cannot trust ANYTHING the computer tells you. Computers tend to babble incoherently when they delirious from a bad case of malnutrition.

Hi,
It sounds like you may have a problem with the charging system not the actual battery.
If the warning lamp on the dash is red and showing a small battery symbol then this is the indicator to tell you there is something wrong with the charging system.
Get this checked out.

Light on dash reads "check

nancycmixon, When you see this "check your charging system" you need to have the alternator checked. This is the main component for the charging system. A normal alternator will put out 13.6 to 14.6 volts. A few tenths of a volt either way won't mean too much but if they are extremely over or under these values means you have a bad alternator. I believe that your vehicle has a voltage meter in the dashboard and it will usually read in the thirteen to fourteen volts range. As far as your battery losing its charge overnight means that you have another problem and that is you have what is called a parasitic drain. There are a certain amount of parasitic drains already in the car with the radio memory and maybe a clock that constantly displays the time and the antitheft system in the car. These will not drain your battery overnight. You have something else draining your battery that is your problem. Have the alternator checked and mention the battery drain. There is test for this but it is too lengthy to post here. Sorry about that. Good luck with this.

Lighting bolt mean

On most vehicles that icon usually means a problem with the electrical system. Possibly the charging system (battery or altenator) or it could be something else. I would suggest you take it to a mechanic and have it checked.

I hope this helps you out if it does please leave me a YES on the page you recieved this response on. Thank you

Charging system failure

Hello. This means for some reason your alternator is not functioning properly. The engine will start and run until your battery goes dead. If you have a voltmeter display on your dashboard the needle will be below 12 to confirm that the alternator is not functioning properly. You need to have this checked out before your battery goes dead so you don't end up stranded on the road. I hope this helps, good luck.
