I have a 1999 mercury sable and it has a bad leak of pwr steering fluid on the left side of the engine, steady drip to the ground even though the pump is on the right side of the engine. What do I look...

Sounds like a leak either from a feed or return line from the steering gear, or an actual leak from the rack. Time to look underneath with a light and see if you can locate it. Doesn't sound pump related at all.

Steering wheel stiffens making first few turns after turning the car on

It would be difficult to say why the problem exists.
If the pump is low on fluid, obviously it needs to be filled up. Then the question is where is the leak ?
If the pump is full and has never been low, the problem could be something in the suspension that is binding up. And that problem could be from the wreck.
If you raise the front of the car and the wheels are off the ground, you should be able to turn the steering wheel full right and left without much effort and with the engine off.

My key goes in the igniation but it wil not turn.

Try pulling hard on the steering wheel (both right and left) and try to turn the key at the same time . Sometimes, when you turn the engine off, and the power steering pump stops, the steering column can bind on the locking device for the key.

Mercury sable 2002 stalls on hard left turn and after stopping the car wants to lurch

look on your steering system see if there is a little switch this is call a power steering switch or idle up steering switch this idles the vehicle up when under a load such as turning if there is moisture on it more than likely there is moisture in it as well these switches like most that detain fluids and oil have weep holes like a water for example when they go bad they leak replace it it might fix your problem

Ball joints squell when turning left or right at slow speeds or when just starting out and turning. Also have a cooling leak some where on the right side of the engine and am finding it hard to find.

It's more than likely your serpentine belt slipping. Check for worn belt. Usually leaks on the right side are air conditioer run off but it could be other things such as water pump & boil over. Have cooling system pressure tested to determine problem. Good luck!
