My timing belt is either broken or shreaded and the second cylinder is blown...

Engine does not fire on all cylinders


to answer your question what makes a cylinder stop working?
low compression, caused by one3 or more of the following,
burnt or cracked valve
blown head gasket
cracked head
hole in piston (accompanied by loud noises and excessive smoke)
a broken valve spring
broken roker arm
collapsed or worn lifter
worn timming chain or belt (this is usually not consistant toward dropping one hole instead it will effect all at once or the cylinder that is dead will be good one second and bad the next)
those are hard mechanical failures next youve got your tune-up related reasons for a cylinder to fail.
bad distributor rotor,cap, sparkplug wire or spark plug
sometimes the distributor itself
a vacuum leak in the vacinity of the cylinder that is failing
a bad intake manifold gasket
or a cracked intake manifold
a defective fuel injector

What would cause engine 2 lose compression on all cylinders at same time


maybe broken timing belt...does it start? blown head gasket but rare to affect all cylinders at once. is it a 4 cylinder? were you told this by a mechanic? maybe get a second opinion.

1999 chrysler town and country van keeps shreading serpentine belts.


i believe that the compressor is locking up intermittently and or the clutch has disentigrated the bearings on the compressor i would replace the compressor or get a replacement pulley until you have enough time to afford it

You have either blown out the head gasket or cracked the cylinder head itself. You will need to remove the cylinder head and at a minimum replace the head gasket. Inspect head surface after dis-assembly to verfiy that no cracking is present.

I have an issue with with my alternator belt shreading and having to get a new battery every 3-5 months after the original alternator has been replaced.

51 plate 1.8 16v petrol, aux belt shredded and wrapped itself under cam belt for second time in 3 years ! EVERY VALVE BENT


you need to have the timing gears changed and have the mechanic check end play on the crank shaft and the end play on the cam and check the tensioner pulley for wear. If these are ok then you will need to see if it's a bad belt, Never use after market parts for timing belts use factory parts so it will last longer. This is a common thing for a mechanic to forget to check when replacing the timing belt. Hope this helps and thanks for using Fix-ya.

Over heated, no compression either bank. timing belt not broken 03 sorento


timing belt may have jumped a couple of teeth.bring #1 cyl. to tdc and check timing marks on crank and camshaft gears.perform a cylinder leak down test with the radiator cap off to see if the head gasket is blown into a water passage.

2003 Mitsibushis Eclipse GS won't start?


If the timing belt is broken, chances are you would hear the pistons banging into the open valves as the engine turned over (broken timing belt means cam is not turning, and some valves will be open.).

Please reply what led up to the engine not starting, from the last time that the engine ran.
