Hi!!
Most likely, one of your A/C hoses is busted or there is a leak on the system. Follow the hoses coming from the compressor to the condenser (the coil in front of the radiator) and to the firewall, there should be oily residue where the leak is.
The repair should be made by a HVAC Technician.

Air escaping from side of engine behind air conditioner ...coming from mufflers connected to engine.........it fires up but makes a hissing sound and then dies

It sounds like you have a plugged exhaust system, loosen the head pipes at the exhaust manifold flanges and see if it stays running.

Air conditioner will not turn on but defrost comes on with hot air and can not be turned off.

Sounds like your blend door may be stuck or you could have a vacuum leak. If you're not comfortable working on it, take it to a reputable shop.

What's your problem?Toyota Prado Grande 2004. Hissing sound at the rear air suspension and it drops (the body). Does not happen all the time. Bounces a lot quite often noticibly on a hot day, does

If you have Air suspension this can happen. The noise you hear like from an engine is actually the airpump trying to keep up.

The hissing is air escaping and the bouncing is an indication that the suspension is not fully inflated.

There are individual bleed valves so the system can be leveled by itself. The valve on one suspension unit may be leaking. Sometimes soapy water sprayed while the part is working and again while shut off will show a leak.

Some Makes have a diagnostic plug which a scanner can read to find the problem. Often a car is jacked or lifted on a rack and someone did not turn off the Air system and knocked it out of alignment.

I hope my solution is helpful and enables you to diagnose the problem now.

My 09 HHR a/c quit working and is blowing hot air even when the fan is off. I hear a click coming from the dash right before it blows hot air. and today I noticed a hissing sound

That hissing sound is the vacuum line knocked off the servo that shuts off the heater core so the AC will work more effeciently. Your getting warmer.

My air conditioner blows out warm air when I turn the dial all the way to cold. I just recently tried recharging the a/c but it made a hissing sound (it was what I just plugged in). I believe the a/c...

Sounds like you got a leak all right Check compressor clutch as well Motor revs should fluctuate when compressor cuts in and out Could be the seals in the compressor as well You need to find where the hissing noise is coming from

The air conditioner has a hissing sound.

Most likely the system is low, but not low enough to shut off yet. Have it checked for leaks by a competent technician - probably needs an evaporator.

Chevy 2001 2500hd, sounds like a air leak when running the air conditioner. someone told me it was a belt on the air conditioner that was causing the air leak sound.

FREON ENTERING THE EVAPORATOR WILL SOUND LIKE AN AIR LEAK. THE ORIFICE CAN SOUND LIKE ITS HISSING.

HAVE A SERVICE CENTER CHECK THE ORIFICE TUBE, MAY NOT BE INSTALLED PROPERLY.

2003 forester - there is water leaking in the front passenger side floor when the air conditioner is running. sometimes a hissing sound also in the same area.

You need to clear the condenstate drain for the AC evaporator core, it is under the car, as far as the hissing, sounds like a vacuum leak, look for a disconnected small hose around the area of the noise.
