Question about Ford Mustang

1 Answer

I have a 99 mustang v6 3.8 automatic. The problem that I am having is that when the transmission is going into 3rd gear it revs higher (about 2300 - 2500 rpm) before going into 4th gear and this usually happens with normal driving. Thanks

Sounds like a solenoid problem, which is causing a fair or slippage into 3rd gear. If you have a solenoid pack in trans, you need to change it. Don't drive it at all ,that way. Find out what trans unit or model you have,by stopping at a trans shop and asking lots of questions. Then go home, pull the pan and change yourself,if applicable.

You have internal transmission damage I expect the clutches on third and fourth gear are wiped out. Its either that or a solenoid gone bad that holds those clutches pressure get it in a transmission shop soon to avoid whole transmission replacement costs.

My 2000 mustang has a 3.8l automatic transmission and won't go into gear.. any gear.. just revs.. reverse works fine.. what might be the problem?

It could possibly be a problem with your torque converter in your ******. Its definitly worth taking it to a transmission shop to get it checked out.

When do I use the d 5 gear in acura 2003 tl 3.2 liter

Pretty much all the time!

D3, D4, and D5 are all just *DRIVE* like on any automatic transmission, EXCEPT
that the number next to the D is the "highest gear the automatic transmission will go into".
The Acura just gives you a choice, in case you don't want to go into a higher gear (like if it's slippery traction or a steep hill, etc.)

1 means: Manual gear. FIRST GEAR ONLY.
2 means: Manual gear. SECOND GEAR ONLY.
D3 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 3rd gear.
D4 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 4th gear.
D5 means: Use automatic transmission, but engine will never shift above 5th gear.

Shifting problem, automatic transmission

Does your check engine light come on when this happens? It's probably when your tranny goes into limp home mode. You should have 1st gear ( only if you shift it there manually) 3rd and reverse. You are probably experiencing the 3rd gear thing and are probably burning up all of the clutches when you accelerate and should probably take it into the shop before something worse happens. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
