I am going to guess you have a 4.3 vortec. Common issues with the vortec is the CSFI system needs to be cleaned, the valve on the poppet valve (Fuel Injector) is dirty with carbon build up. You can have it cleaned at the dealer with a machine or you can try with using the common fuel injector cleaner. The other thing that works well is to add one can of Seafoam to a full tank of gas and run it through until it's 1/4 from empty and with a second can of Seafoam, Try cleaning the upper intake by following the instructions on the can, there will be lots of smoke just to warn you but it's safe. DO a search on Youtube on Seafoam to give you better idea on how it's used.
At worst, your CSFI system is far to gone to be cleaned and will need to be replaced. The good news is that you can upgrade your CSFI to the MFI system that does not have the same issues as the CSFI and take about half the day to replace. Auto Zone or Napa , and the Dealer sells the MFI upgrade to your fuel injector system.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck and inspect all your vacuum hoses for cracks and any other damages.

Start with the slave (release) cylinder. First take off the line and plug it with a golf tee or a short piece of hose with a bolt in the end. Remove the slave cylinder. Fill the new one with fluid and do the reverse. Then do the same thing with the master cylinder being careful not to lose any fluid. You may need to add fluid and bleed the system when finished.

Hi Spacey, Sounds as if you have an old model of the HiLux. Is it Carburetor or injection? If its carb I think that's where your problem will be. If there is leakage between the throttle body of the carb and the main body above it, there will be a flat spot when pulling away from start and possibly at higher revs. The easiest way of dealing with the problem is to replace the carburetor. Keep in mind that the most critical setting in any carb is the float level, if its not set correctly it will either flood or starve. Sounds as if you may have those measurements wrong. The settings are specific to the type of carb, if you need further help, tell me the type of unit fitted to your vehicle. Regards Johngee10
