1985 Nissan 300ZX I want to disable the fuel pump to relieve the pressure before replacing the fuel filter. Is it a relay or a fuse?

No need to remove any relay. Proceed as follows:
- Park the car in shaded and well ventilated area.
- Remove the negative battery terminal.
- Loosen the fuel cap, fuel filter banjo bolt, push on or pipe clip.
- Wrap a piece of cloth around the connecting end of the pipe and remove the pipe.
CAUTION:
Let the engine cool down about half an hour before you proceed.
Keep your eyes away from the gasoline splash.
Keep any flame away.
Dry up the area immediately.
NOTE:
It is always better to get the job done by a qualified personnel.

How do you change the fuel filter on a 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme 4 door 3.1 V6? Vin#1G3WH52M8TF372414

Hi,

Fuel filters are easy to replace but let me give you some friendly warnings:

CAUTION. To reducethe risk of fire and personal injury always follow the correct procedure for disconnecting and connecting fuel pipe quick connect fittings. This will ensure good connections and prevent possible fuel leaks.

CAUTION. Safety glasses must be worn if you use compressed air, as flying dirt prticles may cause eye injury.

Important

The fuel filter is no longer serviced in regular maintenande intervals. It is only necessary to replace the fuel filter in the case of damage or a clogged filter.

Before replacing a fuel filter it is necessary to relieve fuel system pressure.

Your fuel filter is located under the vehicle, driver side, below seating area, front of fuel tank, mounted on frame rail in fuel line

Fuel filters and elements are serviced by replacement only. Some vehicle manufacturers recommend fuel filter replacement at 30,000 miles (48,000 km). Always replace the fuel filter at the vehicle manufacturer's recommended mileage.

The fuel filter replacement procedure varies depending on the make and year of the vehicle and the type of fuel system. Always follow the filter replacement procedure in the appropriate service manual. The photo sequence below shows a typical procedure for relieving fuel pressure and removing a fuel filter.

Follow the recommended procedures for disconnecting the fuel outlet connector, then remove the fuel filter.

Installing Fuel Filters
In-line fuel filters are installed in the fuel line. In carbureted engines, the in-line gasoline filter is usually installed between the fuel pump and the carburetor. In vehicles with a fuel injection system, the location of the fuel filter is determined by the manufacturer. An arrow on the filter shows the direction of fuel flow.
  • To install a new filter, begin by wiping the male tube ends of the new filter with a clean shop towel.
  • Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends on the filter.
  • Check the quick connectors to be sure the large collar on each connector has rotated back to the original position. The springs must be visible on the inside diameter of each quick connector.
  • Then install the filter in the proper direction and leave the mounting bolt slightly loose.
  • Install the outlet connector onto the filter outlet tube and press the connector firmly in place until the spring snaps into position.
  • Grasp the fuel line and try to pull this line from the filter to be sure the quick connector is locked in place.
  • Then, do the same with the inlet connector.
  • Now tighten the filter retaining bolt to the specified torque.
  • Once everything is connected, lower the vehicle, start the engine, and check for fuel leaks at the filter.
Have fun and all the best

Need location of fuel filter and how to change.

The fuel filter is located on the fire wall in the engine
compartment. You may not want to attempt this.
Should be done when engine is cold, also have to
relieve fuel system pressure, place shop rags around
filter for gasoline spillage and will be dealing with bolts
on gas line. It can be done, but I think a repair manual
(Haynes) is a must.

How do I change the fuel filter without the gasoline spill ? where can i lock the gasoline line to replace the fuel filter? thank

turn off car, take off filler cap for gastank, you should see a fuel pressure connector on the fuel rail release the pressure there, make sure you have a rag over it so you dont get sprayed with gas. that will release the pressure you should probably get this done by a professional though
