Hi
If you have a new battery and it dies it means that the alternator is bad. The alternator is what replentishes the battery and run the car while you drive it. A simple test is as follows start the car, while the motor is running discinnect the (red) positive cable from the battery. The motor should continue to run....If it shuts off it means that the alternator is bad. The battery is only used to start the car! After its started it runs off of the alternator which also constantaly recharges your battery. Have any questions email me at jackdouglass@comcast.net

2004 Nissan Altima 3.5L BATTERY LIGHT went on during 15 minute drive. Next day car "died" while idling after a 20 minute drive. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT & BATTERY LIGHT on prior to full electrical failure.

Start with checking the alternator voltage with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage in the battery which should be holding 12v charged less if flat of course then start the car and test the battery again. If the alternator is good you should be getting a reading of 14 to 14.5 v if it's the alternator it'll A) not put any charge into the battery or B) be a very low voltage being anything under 13.5 v

I have a 1990 Volvo 240 recently the car started to die at random times while driving. When it dies all the dash lights come on can't start it for a bit afterwards. I replaced the battery and it seemed...

  • This is classic of your alternator going bad. Sometimes, when it first begins to go bad it will function on and off. Soon it just stops charging the battery all together. The battery has one function and that is to start the car. Then the alternator is ran by the belt and charges the battery and in effect runs the car. The reason for the lights coming on is the power fail in the car.
  • Buying a new battery worked for a short time because the fresh battery ran the car but with no alternator to charge the battery the car soon died again.
  • The fix is to replace the alternator. Do it soon or even that new battery will go bad from being drained so much.

regards, Tony

Hi, I have a 91 Mazda B2600 5 speed fuel injected truck. Recently it started dying and I thought it was the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump, and it ran great for around 10 minutes and then died...

I had a similar problem and did the same thing. I late found out it was due to a blown capacitor in the ECM (computer module). I had the ECM repaired and it has have working trouble free for a year now.
