That solenoid is called a shift lock solenoid. It operates when you depress the brake pedal when you want to shift out of park. If it does not engage replace it

1988 Dodge Ram 50 Automatic shifts into park reverse and neutral. But physically won't go into drive gears.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

My 2000 mercedez benz s500 the shifter is stuck

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

Car won't shift from neutral to park

replacing transmission?????nonsence!!! i can tell this is an automatic trans setup, not standard. lets start here. put car in PARK and turn key on so the dash comes on. do not start car. step on the brake pedal several times slowly and listen for audible sound coming from the shifter area. you should hear clicking sound everytime yo uhit the brake. that is the shift lock solenoid releasing the mechanism indside of the shifter assembly so you can get the car out of park and into gear. you may have an issue with the shifter assembly it self. if no clicking sound is heard, it will need to be diagnosed fruther. the solenoid can not be purhcsed separatelly. shifter assembly only. start with the listening procedure and let me know.

99 E-250 will not shift into park

With the ebrake applied. Block all the wheels and disconnect the linkage at the transmission. Then see if you can move the shifter easy. if so check the transmission shift linkage. and see if it moves easy.

Cannot shift the trans out of park. Is there som sort of brake pedal interlock (solinoid or whatever)?????

There is a lock out solinoid in the steering column. but the problem was in the shift cable.
The easiest way to diagnoise this problem was to disconect at the transmission and then try the shifter.

Gear shifter does NOT shwitch from park and break

SHIFTER LOCKED IN PLACE

  1. Remove the instrument panel cover below the steering column, then remove the steering column shrouds to gain access to the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid. The solenoid is part of the interlock cable assembly.
  2. Disconnect the wire connector from the rear of the BTSI solenoid.
  3. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position.
  4. With the brakes applied, try moving the shifter out of the PARK position.
    • If the lever now moves freely in and out of PARK, perform the Circuit Test below.
    • If the shift lever still does not move from the PARK position, remove the BTSI solenoid from the shift lever assembly. If the shift lever now moves freely in and out of the park position, the BTSI solenoid is faulty and the interlock cable must be replaced. If the shift lever still does not move from the park position, the problem is in the shift lever assembly or the ignition interlock cassette

Shifter problem

If you take the center console apart and look at the shifting lever, you will be able to tell how it works and figure out what is happening with it. you have to push in on your brake pedal first, of course, and thta will actuate a solinoid in the center console. The solinoid may be faulty or you may have a pinched wire causing this.
You are not an idiot by any means I would guess. You should be able to figure this out. It is a pretty simple assembly.
If you are parking on a hill then you could be experiencing the transmission parking paw having pressure on it, which will cause you to not be able to shift out of park. If you are parking on a hill, I would suggest that you use your parking brake before you put your vehicle in park. This is take the pressure off the parking paw.
