Question about 2001 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

2001 Ford Expedition Premium Sound System suddenly stopped sounding premium, I thought I heard something hit the truck when I was on the highway but no marks outside and the stereo suddenly started sounding tinny, like a cheap transitor radio instead of the Big Bass Sound it had before. It wasn't even cranked up. Suppose it could have been an electrical short that made the sound instead of something hitting the truck. I checked fuses and and changed relay, no help. Is there a pre-amp away from the dash unit?

Your best bet,and I never recommend this,is a dealer, because they would be familiar with your sound system.

Why doesn't it seem to have the power to pass on the highway?

could be it needs a tune-up, check for codes, check fuel pressure and volume, it could also be a plugged catalytic convertor or exhaust. just some places to start.

Can you replace a stock amp with a after market amp without rewiring speaker 2001 sport track

It depends on whether you have the standard audio system or a premium sound system. The standard system has no factory amplifier, the premium system has a factory amp and some other gimmicks that are hard to interface with. A proper OEM amplifier upgrade will require changing the factory speakers with stronger replacements, as well as adapting the factory head unit output to a signal your new amplifier will like. More often than not, it is more economical and better sounding to just change the factory speakers and run the replacements off your factory system. To drastically improve the sound system, it is more effective to just change everything.

First thing I would do is have someone qualified disconnect the alarm and stereo and start over.
Chances are you have circuits cross-connected and something is draining the battery.

Go to the engine fuse module and check 20A fuse 5 which feeds power to the separate amplifier and subwoofer amplifier. Also check 10A fuse 3 which feeds power to the radio, the CD changer, and the rear integrated control panel.

can be a problem with lifters, bent/broken valves.. timing could be off, could be a balance shaft. this is something you want to take into a shop and have looked at.
