Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

My 1999 Cad DeVille needs the mounts for the front struts changed. Can I do this myself if I buy the parts? Or, does it have to be put up on a rack to take the pressure off? Thanks....Allen R.

You will need a strut compressor. If you take them apart without compressing them, someone will get hurt, if you have the tools to do this job then yes you can do this by youself.

Front end vibrates at any speed

have a wheel alignment done as the upper strut mounting plate was not put back in the right place . . The mounting plate is off set so by turning it around ,the wheel alignment changes and when the strut was re assembled the original holes were not in the right place and the alignment has altered.

2006 hhr rattling in front end

When you changed out the struts, did you also replace the Strut Bearing Mounts that mount the struts to the strut towers on the car? These things are notorious for making the rattling sound.

2004 deville front end vibration at 67-75 mph

Check your strut mounts, and front struts, my 2004 cadillac deville did the same thing between 67 and 75mph and after time it shook between 58 to 80mph, and it was the front strut mounts were egged out, and front struts were weak. I had my tires balanced, wheel bearings replaced, and it didnt help.

How to change front struts of 1995 buick regal?

Go to Autozone and buy 2 front strut "cartridges". Then rent their strut cartridge installation tool from their loaner tool program. You can change both sides in about an hour without even jacking the car up-be sure to have a 15/16" wrench on hand for the nut and follow the directions that come with the loaner tool. Also spray a little penetrating oil on the nut a few days before you do the job. There is no reason to change the entire strut assembly unless something has failed.

I need to change my struts and I dont know if I need any special tools or presses

You are going to need a compressor for removing the coil springs from the old struts and putting them on the new ones. You are going to need top strut mounts as yours are old. You are going to need some big wrenches with extenders to get the bottom bolts loose. You are going to need an alignment rack as the car will have to be aligned when put back together. You will need someone to operate the alignment rack. Try and track down some "quick struts" for your car these already have the new coil spring and mount installed. Save time and money. Look on ebay.

A noise in the front. Would seem to be either

Possibly struts or strut bearings. or it could be inner or outer tie rods, maybe control arm bushings steering rack mounts. Need more information and specific circumstances it happens under.

Change out Front Struts

If you've never done them before it could be very dangerous I've seen experienced mechanics have them fly across the room, and thank God , no-one was standing in the path. There are other parts that should probably be replaced when doing the struts, like upper mounts/bearings etc., otherwise you may be sorry you didn't real soon, from the grinding, thumping etc. What most guys are doing these days, is buying the "Quick Strut kits" or whatever name your supplier may be using. Basically it's a complete new strut, spring, bearing/mount assy., all in one, already done for you. You just unbolt from above & below & switch them. Price it out & see if it isn't too bad, I'd go with that, then you also pay for one alignment. Many a guy has changed struts, got alignment, then bearing/mounts started making noise, then changed them, which basically means all the same work again, and another alignment. Up to you, but I'd think about it if those other parts haven't already been changed. Hopefully you can get a credit back on struts you bought to put toward complete assy.Check out this link to autozone.,2624239/vehicleId,2316702/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,/partType,00660/shopping/partProductDetail.htm
