Question about 1992 Plymouth Laser

1 Answer

It's a 92 Plymouth laser 1.8 none turbo, wont start when cold..will only idle. Once it gets some heat in it, it runs and starts fine. It threw 3 codes, volume Air Flow senor, intake air temperature sensor, and idle speed control motor. I checked or replaced all 3 and they are all fine. I tested fuel pressure before the filter and after the pressure regulator, it test fine...checked all vaccume lines and injectors and they are all fine..Any ideas? Thanks, Jim

Hello your problem is simple if it is just sitting there running and you have heat but if you drive it and you lose heat it is the thermostat, it is stuck open and the fluid is passing threw the motor to fast to heat up. get a new thermostat and problem will be fixed

The car will pop alittle when you try to start it...It wants to start but wont..replaced the fuel filter, plugs.I have spark to all plugs..I can squirt gas into the intake and it will run but will not idle...

usually when a vehicle backfires, it is caused by the timing or a bad crank sensor. symtoms of a bad coolant sensor are--poor cold idle, stalling, ( rich mixture, retarded timing) slow idle speed, cold hesitation or stumble, and poor fuel milage. check coolant sensor first. good-luck!!

Firing order for 92 plymouth laser

For the 1992 Plymouth Laser:
I do not know if you have the 1.8L SOHC or 2.0L DOHC (or Turbo) In-Line 4-Cylinder Engine; however I have included both below.

For the 1.8L SOHC In-Line 4-Cylinder:
Firing Order:
1-3-4-2
Cylinders:
..........(back)...........
|...1....2....3....4...|
.........(front)
Distributor:
.....(back)
..(+)
..............1
2
.................3
...4
..............(+)
.....(front)

For the 2.0L DOHC (AND TURBO) In-Line 4-Cylinder
Firing Order:
1-3-4-2
Cylinders:
...........(back)..........
|...1....2....3....4...|
..........(front)
Ignition Connections:

Engine runs rough after about ten minutes /idles really low

Just trowing some suggestions out there, but, I would check the idle air control valve (solenoid) or the throttle position sensor. If they check out then my last guess would be the map sensor or the vaccuum to the map sensor. Hope I was able to help. Best wishes.

The INFAMOUS DSM Hot Start Problem

Here are a few things to try: 1) Block off your EGR valve. Sometimes these fail, and when they do, this is what happens.

2) Change your vaccum hoses, especially the one going to the fuel-pressure regulator. Sometimes this one leaks and creates problems for the FPR.

3) Change your plug wires. I'd use some MagnaCore wires. They're less $$$ than the stock ones, and they're 8.5mm opposed to the stock 6mm. The stock wires are no good, especially when raising the boost.

4) Clean your throttle body REALLY well. Make it spotless, including both sides of the throttle plate.

5) Clean out your intercooler. Do this by taking it out, dump about a gallon of gasoline into it, then shake it around and dump out. Repeat process until gas coming out is clean.
