I have a 1995 Mazda 626 that I just bought. The car will start out fine in 1st gear, but will not shift into 2nd gear or beyond. I took the car to the dealership and they advised me the whole transmission needs to be replaced. The car has 168,000 miles on it and I bought the car from a private owner for $850.00. Is it worth getting another transmission for it?

I have a '92 protege' when I start it cold it shifts fine but it seems that when it warms up it slips into neutral and I have to shut the car off and let it cool. Once it's cooled down I can restart it and go again. When it malfunctions the hold button flashes a code I'm assuming. Do I need a tranny or is it something simple like a relay? Just bought this car it's got 97,000 on it. the cars in great shape except I can't drive it! Please help!

I have a '92 protege' with 97,000 on it. When I start it cold it shifts fine but when it warms up it seems to slip into neutral and I have to stop and let it cool with the engine off. Once it's cooled it shifts fine again. When it acts up ithe hold button flashes a code I assume. Do I need a new tranny or is it something simple like a relay? I heard that if you pull all the fuses and replace them it takes care of the problem. I pulled fuses from a diffrent car I have but It's still doing it. Anyone know whats up? I just bought this thing. It's in great shape except I can't drive it!

I have a 1988 Corvette with a 700R4, not wanting to shift from 1st. to 2nd. unless I leave my foot off the gas for it to shift. Contact mac1212sr@aol.com

Transmissions have "synchros" that adjust the speed when shifting from one gear to the next, because the engine's RPMs, while correct for, say, 1st gear, are too high to shift to 2nd gear.

If you're really careful, and an expert driver, you can shift a manual transmission from one gear to the next without using the clutch at all.

However, you seem to have a transmission problem with the 1-2 synchros.

92 dodge ram 150 not shifting

Two things happen on the Dodge's. 1. the rear O2 sensor shorts out and meses things up. 2. the Inner seal on the Direct drum (3rd) shrinks and causes a delayed up shift.

Trans sticks in 2nd gear

"...he had to put hi foot on the gas pedal several times..." I do not understand what this means, but does it still fine? If it is then you likely had a stuck shift valve, but why is the valve stuck? Is the valve body contaminated as a result of the trans "coming apart". If it is still not shifting out of second gear then you may have a 3-4 clutch problem, which is a very common failure and requires overhaul to correct it.

Does Shift solenoid A&B control shifting into 5th gear on an automatic transmission?

First check the transmission MIL code , that will tell you if it is the Over Drive lock solenoid mal functioning , Do a tranny oil change with filter ,then replace fifth gear pressure solenoid , when you are there already .

My 1990 automatic GMC Sierra wont shift out of 2nd, it just revs higher and higher. Any advice? (It will shift from 1st to 2nd when I take my foot off the gas)

Check your transmission fluid, if it is low, the transmission cannot shift into the correct gear from lack of hydraulic pressure. Be sure to check it while the truck is running.

If it is full, you may need to change the fluid and filter; over time the fluid will break down and trash the filter leading to low pressure problems which is why your truck fails to shift any more than 2nd.

Another problem may be that the torque converter is failing to lock yet again from lack of hydraulic pressure or its just worn out.

A/T is not shifting right. Stays in low gear too long, stays in 2nd too long, doesn't shift into top gear until I completely remove my foot from the throttle to coast. Started doing this suddenly. Gears...

checked fluid level? sounds slippy so check that.. and check that your shifter is all secure and nothings broken dude... probably low on fluids.

Hard shifting from 1st to 2nd

I have been hearing a possible solution for this problem is changing the oil filter in the trans oil pan. But ive been looking all over for a solutionand thats the only legit one ive found. It said when the oil gets clogged it doesnt flow to the transmission as nicely as normal therefore leading to lagging changes
