When you say new,how old,the reason i ask is some batteries are supplied dry.(no acid)but fully charged.maybe thats far fetched, but possible.....you need to put a voltmeter on the terminal to see if you have a current drain...and then sort out the short. unless you were sold a duff battery ???

Dead battery, used jumpers. Lights work dashboard lights up. Motor will not turn over

If the battery is very dead, it can take a while for the dead battery to regain enough charge to start. If you are jump starting from a jump box and not a running vehicle, there may not be enough power available to get the charge to a level that can start the vehicle. Hook up the jumpers cable to a running vehicle and allow 10-20 minutes for the battery to gain some charge. Monitor both batteries carefully during this time and should any unusual amount of heat or if smoke starts to come from either battery, shut everything down and disconnect as quickly (and safely) as possible.

Battery is dead. It can be jumped, but won't hold the charge if you shut the car off. 2008 Chevy Impala ltz. We were on the road and stopped for a overnight stay. When we got ready to leave the next...

Battery is shot, buy a new one (possibly get some warranty credit if it is new enough). I just had a co worker ask me about the same problem today and the dealer replaced his battery in his Jeep. The new maintenance free batteries only last approximately 5 years and they don't give you a heads up like they use to in the old days. I have started cars in the morning and noticed that they start a little hard that day. The next time I try to start it, the battery is dead.

Back in the day, I think we had a little more warning because we had to crank the engines longer. With the electronic ignition and fuel injection the modern engines crank so easy, so we don't put a lot of strain on the batteries and when they go they go.

Vehicle was parked and not started for 2 months.

Hi, there will be diodes in the generator that are letting the power from the battery drain away through the parked times when not in use. to prove it charge the battery- then disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, connect 24 hours later and see if the battery as kept it charge, if so - fit new alternator, good luck.
