thanks. does a fuel pump just suddenly quit/die?

  • dgscon Sep 15, 2010

I thought that might be the problem. Wish getting to the fuel pump wasn't so much work. Thanks.

yes they can or you have muck in the gauze filter on teh bottom of the pump ?? thats a possibility or the fuel line is trapped and kinked somewhere along the line .

1991 ford f150 fuel problem

Is it possible the fuel hoses are not hooked up right ? If you only changed the rear pump and the lines are correct, its possible the new pump damaged the check valve in the front pump. The valve could have been about to fail before replacing the rear pump.
You may be able to block the line going into the front tank and run the truck from just the rear tank.

I have a 1991 F150 with duel tanks and a V8 engine 4X4 when I'm on the front tank it runs great but when I switch to the rear tank and give it gas it wants to "bog" down. but at normal spped it...

You need to check fuel pressure at the intake manifold for each tank, and see if you have a failing fuel pump. (Each tank should have it's own pump)

1996 ford f150 with two tanks. Truck has been running fine and normal til today. Wouldn't start, but when I switched tank from front to rear it started fine and ran fine.Any ideas? Thanks

You may have run out of gas in the front tank, but the gauge may have been reading the rear tank or the front sender is stuck. Is the fuel line switched electrically or manually controlled? How are the gauge connections switched?

When I switch from my front fuel tank to my rear tank gas stops

There is no selector valve on a 1995 ford f150 300 engine. The selector switch on the dash sends power to the pump in the selected tank. The pump then sends fuel to the engine. If engine won't run on the selected switch, the pump in that tank needs replaced.

Dual tank only runs on one tank

there is an electric valve that switches from one tank to the other. it switches the gauge too. It is malfunctioning and pumping fuel from one tank to the other instead of the engine. I think there wa a recall for this. Call any Ford dealer and give him your 17 digit VIN # and they can check for open recalls. Recalls never expire and the dealer will repair for free if there is a recall.
good luck
