I have an 87 F150 302. It worked great for a while. Then about once every 3 days when I would try to start it it would turn over but start making a winning noise and it was hard to make the noise stop even after turning it off then it started happening about everyother day. I replaced my starter yesterday and was hoping that would do it but it didnt work any suggestions?

I have an 87 85hp force turns over great, and eventually starts

Hey Phil, Do you want it to start faster? Sometimes low compression will make an engine slow to start...This is how I would do things in my shop!
FIRST - Have a compression check ran on ALL cylinders - minimum of 120psi on each one!!
Then... New spark plugs.
Have the carbs cleaned and set.
Have the timing set/checked

Have a professional do the work.. you will be glad you did...

'87 truck. Why won't it crank or start?

Alternator died. Jump it, get it started then remove the cables. pull the negative cable off the battery. If it dies, replace the alternator.

No start on cold days

Click on the link.
Are you talking about starter motor? In the diagram, see starter relay, unplug the relay, see terminal 30 and terminal 87, if you use jumper wire between those two terminals, the starter motor should crank, Terminal 30 is hot all the time. If you try this make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. If it cranks with the jumper, the problem is on control side of relay, ignition switch--neutral switch--or wiring circuit, somewhere. see crank fuse, use a test lite and voltage on crank fuse when problem is ongoing. I can only help with testing.

Have a fuel pressure leak down test run on the fuel pump. This is a symptom of the electric pump pressure check valve being defective, the valve is part of the fuel pump and it is mounted in the fuel tank. Also make sure you are using 87 Octane gasoline, higher octanes can cause stall issues on cold starts.

87 camry. we're replaced the starter, distributor

If you are trying to get the car to start easier you still may be venting through the gas line or gas cap. The new fuel line may solve the problem. What you still can do is replace the gas cap.
Both Autozone and O'reilly will test your car free. The system on an 87 model may not generate a trouble code on your dash for the problem you have. But the test gauge may show it.
If the car has zip the fuel pump may be okay. If the car fast idles briefly when cold, the cold start system is working. If the car does not idle up, the cold start system is not resetting.

1992 Plymouth Voyager won't start after it rains

I don't know if this is the same, but I used to have a 87 Chrysler LeBaron. It ran great until you washed it or it started raining. Then it would die and it wouldn't start until 2 or 3 days later after it dried out. I took it to the shop several times, they always said it was the fuel pump. It turned out to be the wiring that runs next to the battery, had the insulation eaten away from battery acid over the years. I wrapped the wiring next to the battery in a piece of plastic and I never had another problem with it. Sounds cheesy I know, but it was ironic that several shops looked at it and couldn't figure it out. As far as white smoke that might be a differant problem.
