Question about 1996 Honda Accord

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Honda with four cylinder engine. It doesn't overheat if the ac is on , but running parked it overheated and was gurgling thru overflow resevor. Noiticed the other electric fan does not come on , but ac fan works . car has 126 thousand on it , had belts and waterpump changed , when timeing belts replaced. My mechanic will check it tomorrow, thinks it may be computer not sending command to turn on fan , or could be bad fan . had similar thing happen on 99 cavalier , was fan . terry nieman bristol fla

Check for voltage with test light at fan harness, wait till engine temp. is just above 1/2 way point, if you have voltage, bad fan assembly, not that hard to replace.

I suspect bad fan, if if was a voltage problem wouldn't ac fan not work , since both fans seem to come out of same fuse circuit?

Why does my montero cooing system makes gurgling noise

In many cases of gurgling cooling system, you have a possible head gasket problem starting and the combustion from the engine is pressurizing the cooling system. Check your cooling system thoroughly for evidence of a possible blown head gasket.
Are you loosing cooling system water?
Is your radiator overflow tank being pressurized excessively by the engine. Headgasket problems can sometimes put some much pressure in that overflow tank that it begins to bulge outward.
Check the oil and look for any white/greyish milk shake consistency fluid on the oil fill cap or on the radiator cap. Keep a close eye on your oil and water levels if your gurgling sound continues. This is not normal and again, usually is a sign that there is a possible leak between the headgasket and a water jacket on the head.
Did you overheat the vehicle anytime soon? This will many times breech a head gasket between water jackets and begin spraying water in small amounts right into the engine cylinders, while it pressurizes the cooling system and makes gurgling noises.

Causes overheating

no year? who hot, does hot mean only the gauge when high?
engine overheats or passengers.?? LOL'
overheats parked, ???? or moving fast or BOTH?
where are you that needs A/C , Key West>? im clueless.
it was 72 hear yesterday, no A/C needed.??
so how warm was it? out side?
Any engine with a weak cooling system will in fact overheat
if the A/C is used, because of the heat the A/C dumps in front
of the engine cooling radiator. (a silly design but practical)
think of the straw that finally broke the camels back.
its perfect.
top reasons, lots:
coolant low? look in the RAD neck, dead cold, is the RAD FULL??
for now ignore side tank, levels, assume its not working at all , use RAD actual levels.

1: belts slipping, on water pump pulley
2: debris, in the 2 cores up front, in the front nose of car.
3: radiator tubes clogged, making RAD , weak.
4: not running 50% antifreeze, with boilover protection.
mine boils 265" (i just changed mine yesterday)
5: water pump bad, blades inside rusted thru, (bad service)
6: serious engine problems causing cooling system failure.
a: blown head gasket, forcing exhause gases to the water jackets.
B: same with cracked head, or block. (freeze protection ignored)
7: Engine RAD fan dead. (will cause parked , overheating for SURE)
8: a bad thermostat. they dont last forever. 5 years?
I have a video that shows what fails in a thermostat. very revealing.
did i cover it?

2005 Neon Stalling and Jerking when driving

I don't think you really would expect someone to guess at all
those symptoms, over the internet

I will say you provided lots of things to think about

Most poeple don't even provide the make of car

Only a possible,so don't throw parts at it
Have it properly diagnosed by a repair shop

The bucking (bunny hop) could be a bad EGR Valve,
along with other issues, such as cylinder misfires as well

The gurgle is not something your hear about,so hopefully
your not low on or loosing coolant, check that & check for leaks
& make sure the heater works okey & it doesn't overheat

2002 Mini Cooper overheating when idling with the airconditioning on. Initially the air is cold and as the car engine temperature heats up the air conditioning gets warmer. Also, the radiator overflow cap...

Most cars have an 2 electric fans on the radiator. One will run when the coolant gets hot and the other will run when there is more cooling demand OR it will run when the AC is turned on. My guess is, the second fan is not running when your AC is. Your AC system creates heat of its own. The heat is removed through the condenser (radiator-like coil) which is usually located in front of your engine radiator. Without a fan the heat is transferred into your engine radiator causing it to over heat. This would explain why it overheats while idlling and not while driving. While driving, air is flowing through the radiator and condenser. to provide the necessary cooling. In short, check to see if both fans are running when the engine is hot and the AC is turned on.

Radiator overflow tank makes gurgling sound after engine is turned off. Engine doesn't overheat. just had car service and coolent was fine. no leaks.

You might need to have your cooling system bled, to get all the air out of it. That gurgling is probably just air being pushed in to the overflow tank. Not to much to worry about though.

Engine is overheating while idling cools down when you speed the engine

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If you have overheating problem, it can lead to multiple issues. You may be running on low coolant that's why the vehicle overheats. If that's the case, please add coolant and make sure that it sits on the right level, too much coolant can cause overheating too for coolant will overflow.

The vehicle may have a faulty or worn out radiator blower motor that's why it overheats. If that's the case then you will need a blower motor replacement to resolve the issue.

If the radiator is clogged with dirt and rusts this issue occurs too. The coolant doesn't flow normally on the cooling system if it's clogged. If that's the case, I strongly suggest that you have the radiator flushed to drain out dirt and rusts. If you think that the radiator served you enough then it's better to have it replaced.

Please do check the radiator hoses, If you have worn out hoses it can cause coolant leakage which can result to overheating. A tiny hole is good enough for the vehicle to overheat.

A faulty thermostat sensor can cause the issue too. If you have worn out thermostat, the fan may not trigger that's why the fan won't work when under stressed conditions. A blown radiator blower fuse can cause this issue too so I suggest that you check the radiator blower fuse and replace it when necessary.

Hope you find this information helpful enough and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

OVERHEATING

Hi!
It appears we have an Air lock scenario and you will need to perform a system Bleed.
Park the vehicle on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle, turn heater on full and blower to max. When engine reaches operating temperature watch and listen near coolant filler, keep clear as gurgling and hopefully a boil over should occur. Top up with very warm coolant and wait as it may do it again.
Check for heat inside vehicle if warm replace coolant cap but keep an eye on temperature gauge as the ~Air lock may have moved on from heater matrix/core so proceedure needs to be carried out again from COLD.
If persistent boil ups/over attention must made in the cylinder head
or gasket area, or possibly water pump?
