Question about 1996 Nissan Quest
How do i locate and replace the thermostat
The thermostat will be directly connected in the radiator hoses, If you follow the output of the radiator to the engine, there should be a spot where the hose connects to a metal piece that houses the radiator (this should be connected directly onto the engine.) This piece will have a bolt on both sides of it and to remove it you will just need to take off the bolts. You should take off the hose first to make sure the thermostat is in this piece and you didn't find some other device. When you take off any hose, it will probably start draining the fluid, so have a bucket or something to catch it. The thermostat just sits inside this device but take not of how the old one is sitting because you don't want to put it in backwards. You may also have to replace the gasket if you wreck it when you take this device off. Overall, it is pretty simple. If you already bought a thermostat, you are just looking for a metal piece that is a little bigger with two bolts on the sides holding it on. Please let me know if you have any trouble or have another question, thanks.

If the engine is similar to the 3.0 liter in my 96 Quest, then the thermostat is located on the left of the block as you look down. It is kind of hard to get to, and it has 3-4 bolts holding it in place. You also will need to buy and use a gasket making compound as these do not have a gasket included with them. It is very important that you clean away all the old gasket and that you let the new gasket set up for a full 24 hours. This is not the easiest thermostat I have ever done, and having had to do it twice REALLY sucked!
