Question about 1993 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

Hi i just bought a 93 mercury sable and i have been driving it for about 3 week. just 2 days ago it started to over heat so i checked the coolant and it was very low, so i add some up to the full line. i let the car run for about 5 minutes and it was fine but about five mintues after driving, it started to over heat with a whitish gray color smoke then acted like it was going to shut of. i checked my driveway and i didnt see anything leaking. it would be great if someone could help.

White smoke is caused by coolant or water coming out the tail pipe. white smoke continues you have an internal coolant leak, i.e., cracked head/blown head gasket.

While driving my 1998 Mercury Sable with the heat on. It will start out with really warm heat and then 40 seconds later it willstart to cool down. If I turn off the heat and wait wait a minute it will

This sounds like a classic problem with the heater core. The heater core is like a small radiator that is located under the dash (likely). If the vehicle hasn't been maintained properly with regard to the coolant, the heater core can become clogged over time and need to be replaced. Years ago, there was also a problem with mixing the green and red coolant. This caused the fluid to gel especially in the smaller passages of the radiator and the heater core. Did you install an in-line port when you flushed the system? A little household water pressure flowing thru the system might help blow the clog out. Other than that, replacing the heater core Will likely solve the problem. Good luck!

2002 Sable. Two weeks ago, it will crank but not turn over. Day or so later it started fine, ran well for a week then did the same thing. It has happened twice now, tried replacing the starter motor relay,...

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
This is commonly caused by a faulty starter solenoid. If the starter solenoid is faulty it tends to trip during operation. One good reason why it starts and sometimes don't. Have it replaced and you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

When my car heats up the overflow resoiur fills up and spills out. I've replaced it twice, it still happens 199 mercury sable

Coolant expands as it heats up, is it possible that you have overfilled the resevoir when you changed it? If you did coolant would take a day or two to blow off the excess. If it is dtill overflowing after a couple of days I would be very suspicious that you have a head gasket going bad.
A trip to your garage would be in order and have the car checked out, a compression test or a pressure test on the rad. Hope this helps.
