DEAR SIR,I OWN HYUNDAI VERNA CRDI DIESEL AND RUN FOR 100000 KELOMETRS IN 30 MONTHS, I WAS DRIVING ON EXPRESS HIGHWAY AT SPEED OF 175 KM PER HR VERY SMOOTHLY WITH NO NOISE, NO HEATING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY CAR ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTIONING (THE SAME WAY IF THERE WAS NO DIESEL IN FULE TANK), NO OVERHEATING OF ENGINE, COOLANT LEVEL NORMAL, DIESEL FULL IN TANK.WHILE ON HIGHWAY,WE WERE ADVISED BY AUTHORISED DELAER TO REMOVE THE FUSE OF INJECTOR AND AGAIN REFIT THE SAME AGAIN AS DEALE WAS HAVING DOUBT THAT CAR WOULD HAVE STOPPED DUE TO OVERSPEEDING .BUT EVEN AFTER REMOVING AND REFIITING FUSE ,THE ENGINE DID NOT START, WE TOWED THE CAR TO NEAREST VERNA CAR DEALER TO PUNE ,INDIA, WHERE , NOBODY BOTHERED TO CHECK THE CAR WITH G SCAN AND THEY CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL IN ENGINE,WHICH WAS ALMOST 25 MM HIGHER THAN WHAT IS NORMAL UPPER LIMIT FOR OIL LEVEL. AND DUE TO OVERHEATING OF ENGINE.,THEY CONCLUDED THAT COOLING WATER HAS ENTERED IN ENGINE OIL SUMP TANK WE GOT TIRED AND GOT FRUSTRAED IN EXPLAINING HIM AGAIN AGAIN THAT ENGINE WAS NEVER OVERHEATED ON HIGHWAY, BUT THEY WERE ONLY GIVING THE REASON OF FAILURE AS "OVERHEATING ENGINE, HEAD GASKET DAMAGED AND NEEDS TO BE DONE AND CHARGES WOULD BE TO THE TUNE OF ALMOST MORE THAN RS 2.5 LACS MINIMUM AND HE SAID , AFTER OPENING ENGINE ONLY, THE EXACT ESTIAMTE OF WORK COULD BE GIVEN TO US,THE CHARGES COULD ADD UP. THEN AGAIN I INSISTED THEM TO CHECK ON G SCAN , THE CAUSE OF FAILURE DISPLAYED ON SCREEN WAS "FUEL PRESSURE MALFUNCTIONING". AS THIS COULD NOT BE DIGESTED BY ME THAT INSTEAD OF ATTENDING THE CAUSE OF FAILURE (AS PER G SCAN) ,FULE PR. MAFUNCTION, THEY WERE JUST ADAMANT ON IMPOSING THEIR WRONG DIAGNOSIS OF ?OVERHAETING? ON US.I AM ALSO MECHANICAL ENGINEER AND USE CAR FOR ALMOST LAST 30 YEARS AND CAN EVRY WELL UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY CAR.THEN FINALLY I DECIDED TO TOW MY CAR TO MY HOME ,HERE I CHECKED THE OIL IN ENGINE TO CONFORM WHETHER THERE IS WATER IN OIL OR DIESEL IN OIL. BUT ,CERTAINLY NOT TO OUR SURPRISE,WE WERE CORRECT IN OUR JUDGEMENT RIGT FROM THE BEGINNING THAT DIESEL IS PRESENT IN OIL. THEN WE DECIDED TO SEND MY CAR TO NEAREST AUTHORISED DEALER IN ULHASNAGAR , WHO DID NOT HAVE G SCAN AND TRIED HIS BEST TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM BY CHECKING MECHANICAL ASPECTS , ELECTRICAL ASPECTS ALSO ONE BY ONE FOR ALMOST MORE THAN 7 DAYS, BUT ALL IN VAIN, NO RESULTS, THEY SURRENDERED AND ASKED US TO TAKE OUR CAR TO ANOTHER CAR SHOWROOM (HAVING G SCAN) WITH CONCLUSION AS THERE IS ELECTRIC FAULT BUT NOT ABLE TO DETECT IN THEIR SHOP AS THEY WERE NOT HAVING G SCAN, THEN WE TOWED CAR TO AUTH DEALER IN NAVI MUMBAI ON 13TH SEPT,2010 WHERE AGAIN , AFTER 24 HOURS ON 14TH SEPT NOON,THE WRONG REPORT THAT ENGINE HAS STARTED BUT THERE IS ABNORMAL NOISE IN ENGINE AND I WAS ASKED TO VISIT TO WITNESS THE NOISE PROBLEM IN ENGINE WHILE IN RUNNING CONDITION (PL NOTE THAT ENGINE WAS NEVER SATRTED TILL DATE )BUT DURING MY VISIT TO CONFORM THE SAME,SR MECHANIC AND VARIETY OF STAFF AT ALL LEVELS TRIED TO START THE ENGINE IN FRONT OF ME ON 14TH SEPT FROM 1700 HRS TO 2030 HRS BUT COULD NEVER START THE ENGINE. AND WHEN I ASKED THEM THAT PL TELL ME ,WHO HAS STARTED THE ENGINE AND PL SHOW ME THE NOISE IN ENGINE, BUT THEY HAD NO ANSWER AND FINALLY ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT NOBODY HAS REALLY GONE NEAR MY CAR AND ALL VAGUE OPINIONS WERE CONCLUDED WITHOUT STUDYING , ANALYSING THE PROBLEM IN MY CAR AND THEY WERE ALMOST ABOUT TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO STUDY AND FIND OUT NOISE PROBLEM IN ENGINE (WHICH IS NOT AT ALL PRESENT AS THE ENGINE WAS NEVER STARTED BY THEM), AND FINALLY I BRIEFED THEM THE WHOLE STORY THAT DIESEL IS ENTERING IN ENGINE WITHOUT GETTING BURNT AND WHILE STARTING , THE DIESEL IS JUST BEING SPLASHED INTO THE CHAMBER / OIL SUMP WITHOUT GETTING BURNT AS THERE WAS NO INITIAL SPARK DEVELOPED AT INJECTOR AND WAS SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT NOBODY HERE IN THIS DELAER SHOP ,TOO, BOTHERED TO CHECK ENGINE WITH G SCAN ALTHOUGH IT IS AVAILABLE WITH THEM. AGAIN, HERE AT 200 HRS, I FORCED THEM TO CHECK CAR WITH G SCAN, THEN AFTER SEEING THE DISPLAY ON G SCAN SCREEN , THEY WERE CONVINCED THAT , YES, THERE IS ELECTRIC FAULT IN SYSTEM AND NEEDS ATTENTION INTHIS DIRECTION (5 PROBLEMS, P 0101-MASS OR VOLUME AIR FLOW ,P 0091- RAIL PRESSURE REGULATOR VALVE CIRCUIT,P0253- RAIL PRESSURE REGULATOR VALVE CIRCUIT ,P0047-VGT VACUUM MODULATOR CIRCUIT &P 0381 ?GLOW PLUG / HEATER INDICATOR CIRCUIT?. AND ASSURED ME THAT THEY WILL DEPUTE THE BEST ELECTRICIAN TO CHECK THE ELECTRIC CIRCUIT IN CAR TOMORROW ON 15TH SEPT AND BY 1400 HRS ON 15TH SEPT.I WILL BE INFORMED THE STATUS BUT AGAIN NOBODY BOTHERED TO CONTACT ME AND I HAD TO VISIT TO DEALER JUST TO KNOW THAT NO PROGRESS AND AGAIN I HAD TO REPEAT THE STORY OF DIESEL FALLING INTO THE OILS SUMP EVERY TIME WE TRY TO START THE ENGINE., TO AGAIN A NEW MECHANIC. RESULT IS MY CAR IS STILL UNDER BREAKDOWN SINCE 26THSEPT,2010 AND DO NOT KNOW THE FATE / FUTURE OF MY CAR AS TO WHEN WILL I GET MY CAR DULY REPAIRED AND WHETHER MY CAR COULD BE REPAIRED AT ALL OR NOT. AS FOR LAST ALMOST 20 DAYS, ALL 3 AUTHORISED DEALERS FAILED TO DIGNOSE MY CAR PROBLEM AND MY CAR IS STILL LYING AT THE MERCY OF DEALERS AND I HAVE LOST ALL MY HOPES THAT THIS CAR COULD EVER BE PROPERLY DIAGNOSED ?? AND REPAIRED THEREAFTER ??.I REALLY DON?T MIND OFFERING MY VERNA DIESEL CAR TO YOUR CHENNAI WORKS AS A FREE ISSUE FOR CARRYING OUT RESEARCH SO AS TO AT LEAST AVOID ANY SUCH KIND OF MISERABLE TROUBLE TO YOUR PROSPECTIVE AND EXISTING CUSTOMERS .PLEASE ADVISE ME AND HELP ME IF YOU CAN. Had the same problem... check GSCAN for fuel pressure error? if the error is Fuel pressure too low then your high pressure has gone. if its too high then injectors need to be check for "return". Check fuel lines for dirt. get them cleaned with air.


High pressure pump - 90K @ Hyundai
Injector : 22K each @ hyundai


its much cheaper outside. Lemme know if you need any more help.

I have verna too.I had the same problem. but as i had encountered the same problem with my another CRDi car(accent). I knew what to do. First check that if all the pins of ECM are fine even if 1 out of hundred pins is broken it wont start. first I had this problem. got it solved.
After a while i had a problem where it used not to start properly so I changed the injector rail. it started to work properly.
Verna mostly has these 2 problems.

Hyundai Verna late starting and engine gets switched off when cold.


Hello Rajiv Chaudhary,

First and always... on diesel engines YOU want to check your injectors... (Bosch CRDi... see video at bottom).

It is certainly an experiment... but the down-side is you end up with new ones in place and a GOOD SET of used SPARES (only if I am WRONG).

FAILING THAT SOLUTION (Only)...

Failing that significantly changing your situation...
Once fire & fuel have been completely covered... and because of
60 years of mechanical experience I then move on to EXHAUST PROBLEMS... (even before suggesting code readers).

Your engine must properly breath to start quickly & run properly.

I know of no elegant way to check... just open the exhaust
and see if it improves your starting... Get out the penetrating oil and GET TO IT....

Failing that... hire a professional
(get a bucket of money & surrender it to a mechanic...
(but I hope my advise averts that)).
