SOURCE: 2004 dodge ram 1500 3.9 auto trans problem

Check fluid level first. See if fluid smells "burnt". The signs are the tranny is dying. Don't go far in this vehicle until you've taken it to a shop you trust. They will pull the drain pan and inspect. Next sign of death will be a whining in the transmission as the suction strainer for the pump becomes clogged with the clutch material. Good Luck.

98 dodge ram 1500 5.9L 2wd got misfire codes. Changed cap, rotor, wires, plugs, manifold gasket, TPS, truck still stalls when driving and won't start. Check engine light doesn't come on anymore. Help?

Retest it and post all the codes received, also do a engine running fault code test (requires a full function scan tool). Check for engine vacuum leaks and check the EGR valve for leaking.

If you have individual injectors, try switching one with another and see if the code moves-also consider the possibility that you have low compression in that cylinder. you might try to reset the ecu by disconnection of the battery for 5 minutes, and clean terminals and battery lugs, then reconnect it and let it idle so sensors 'relearn'-you should let it idle for a few minutes, then drive it gently for a couple more, then normally-adaptive ecu will relearn all sensors, and it may fix the CEL issue.

There is no standard interval for the CE/MIL light. You need to get the codes scanned at a local AP store to see what codes you have.

Check engine light , trouble code 34

Your truck is OBD2 compliant take it to a local auto parts store and have them read the code for you they usually do this as a free service, if it doesn't have a obd2 port then your truck is not a 1996 vehicle.

My 2004 Ram has the same issue. Check engine light and the truck sometimes will stall out when breaking. The EGR valve is about $60 at NAPA and its not hard to install, i think four bolts hold it in. Then undo your battery for about 10 minutes and the check engine light should reset.
