Question about 2004 Pontiac Vibe

1 Answer

When starting engine, engine turns over several times before actually starting. I dont know how to tell if its a fuel issue, or if it is electrical. Spark plugs are about 45,000 miles old. Also, loud vibration of something loose when starting from stop or going up inclines. Can't find anything loose under the car. possibly the exhaust?

I think is time for a complete tune up. And a oil change too. Start from there. it could be many things but a tune up could be one of the remedies. , About the vibration could be the catalytic converter or or a heat shield.

Hi My 2005 Same Dorado 85 Tractor. It starts from cold easily first time around. But once the engine has been running for several minutes it stops.

sounds like you could have a coolant temp sensor issue. If it senses the engine temperature higher than it actually is, it will tell the engine computer to shut down.

Also I'm not showing an 05 Eldorado, if you could give the correct information for your car, it would be very helpful

Car turns over but will not start.

If your car will not start but will crank over then this will tell you where the problem is. An engine needs 3 things to run. Fuel, air, and spark. The way to tell if it is a fuel problem is to take starting fluid and spray in the air cleaner. And if it starts, then it is a fuel problem. Usually a fuel pump, fuel pump relay, or the fuel filter. If it does not start. Then the next thing to check is spark. If you have no spark then it could be several different things. But then you will at least know it is something to do with the electrical system. There are some cases where the timing belt jumps a tooth and makes the timing off where you will get spark and the car still won't start. Usually in this case the car will start, but backfire and run terrible. If you have fuel and spark then it could be the air filter dirty, mass air flow sensor, or something to do with air. I hope that this helps!

I was driving my chevy 1500 and it died and does not seem to be getting any gas

if truck was made after 1988 its sure to have some sort of PCU module and the later types even will tell you exactly why it wont run , but you'll need to hook up a code reader to see what the problem is , but a owner can diagnose some things themslefs , just by using there good hearing .

start by turning key to run not start listen !! did you hear fuel pump prime in tank ?? then shut off this is telling you fuel pump ckt is ok may take several times to hear it

crank engine over listen to fuel injectors click on engine top (takes two people) injectors actually click as they are opened for fuel ?? a old paper towel roll tube held to your ear helps to hear

Hard to restart when turned off hot

This answer is assuming your vehicle is fuel injected which will have an electric fuel pump.
When you go to start it - turn the key on all the way but don't crank the engine - do that several times ON - OFF - ON - OFF - ON - OFF - ON - OFF. Then try starting it again.
What that will do is pulse on the fuel pump each time (only for a split second) which will pressurize the fuel rail. If it starts ok then either your fuel pump is weak or restricted.
Let me know how this works for you?

Vehicle has to crank for several seconds before turning over. Is this a symptom of a fuel pump malfunction?

HI there not all the time it could be clogged fuel filter
Or pressure regulator.
Put first replace fuel filter and see if engine starts normal. OK

good luck

1975 Datsun (ie. mechanical fuel pump). Carburettor, electrics (inc. battery all good) fuel strainer all good. On cold start engine needs to be cranked several times. Warm start is invariably immediate. ...

Carburated vehicles ether have an automatic choke, or the very old ones, a hand choke. Yours has an automatic choke. The starting problem likely is a problem with the choke. The problem is almost certainly not the fuel pump.To set the automatic choke, push the accelerator to the floor, and RELEASE. Then start the engine just like you would a fuel injected vehicle. If this doesn't solve the problem, then the automatic choke needs to be repaired.

Where reset switch for fuel pump is located

I know there is not one on the 96 models. I fought a fuiel pump related issue on our 96. There are several sensors that must be working before the fuel pump will run. Start with the crankshaft sensor, then look at the camshaft sensor, finally there is a relay that actually runs the fuel pump. The relay should be under the hood with the fuses.

Dodge dosen't use reset switches on the fuel pump circuit. The only company I know of that does is Ford and Ford companies like Mazda and Jaguar.

Hope helps.

To be honest, sell it. You're getting in to more electronic issues than the car is worth.I can tell you the z1 circuit is shot, that's the main engine ground under the battery tray. That's just the begining of the electrical issues.
