Hi if its just not closing then the chances are if you undo it and put it back it should work as sometimes they move slightly so if you can either undo the part on the door that opens or the part inside the glove box that it latches onto, which ever is easiest to get to then move it slightly so that its it closer to the other part when you close the glove box door, doing this should solve your problem.

they have a bit of play in them so they can be lined up in the factory so just loosen it then move it slightly then tighten it back up doing this should get it working and save you some money on buying new parts.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

I guess I don't understand what you mean by undo it and put it back. When I squeeze the button on the outside, nothing moves on the inside. The latch isn't catching or holding on to anything. Any other ideas?

HI, oh i see, if nothing at all is moving when you a press the button then this would suggest the clip inside has broke, the only option would be to get a replacement as the chances of fixing it so that it would keep working is pretty slim.

The latch of the glove compartment broke. Can't open the compartment

If you look under glove box you will see two to four screws that hold the glove box on. Take out the screws and the glove box will drop down and you can get inside and release latch..then you can get a replacement latch and replace.

How to open a glove box door when the latch is broken on

check under the glove box door to see if you can see the hinges. Sometimes you can unscrew the hinges from the bottom. Else you have to knock out the hinge pin on both hinges, open the door from the bottom and see if you can swing the door up to undo the latch.
If this does not work, cut a hole in the bottom ot the glove box, it is usually made of plastic or papier mache, release the latch from inside, then you can remove the plastic box once it is open and replace it with a new one. It will cost you, but it will be less expensive that breaking down the metal door!

GMC Sierra 1500 Glove box latch is broken and will not open

Unfortunately, you cannot just by the latch assy from the dealer. They only carry the complete glove box assy. (cost $285). The best fix if you are near a truck salvage yard is to get one from a wrecked vehicle. I just fixed mine for $32.00 including tax. To remove the glove box, you will need to remove 3ea 7mm screws that hold the hinge to the dash. And there are 2ea alum pop rivets that you will need to drill out (I used a 3/8 drill bit). Then slide the assy to the left to free the tab on the right side. Reverse procedure to install.

with a small flat head screw drive. pull the glove box latch and there will be a goldish small piece of metal behind glove box latch. remove the small gold metal piece ( you will have to break it out) and your glove box will open. the new latch will cost about 25-35 dollars. <!-- from fixya rte -->

Glove box latch is broken cant open it want to replace it but cant remove it

Guess what? Volkwagen makes you buy the entire glove box assembly, including lock and door in gray, black or beige for around $145. No way to fix the latch because it is encased in sealedand glued plastic. Good luck! Mine just broke, also.

2000 Toyota Corolla VE -- Glove Box Stuck

The most common cause is something inside the glove box jammed in the latch. Push glove box door release , and GENTLY insert a flat putty knife, plastic knife, or similar type tool in the groove of door, GENTLY try to pry open the door. U will probably (hopefully) find a napkin, map, or glove (does anybody actually put gloves in the glove box?) jammed in the inside latch. Let me know how u make out.
