Question about Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

96 caravan 3.0 , have had it two weeks now bought from a cousin who had trans rebuilt. Test drove it, everything was fine. seems the trans was starting to require a little gas to move but after you got it to move it went down the road just fine. Now it is requiring the gas pedal to the floor to get it to move at all.this all started happening over last few days.sitting in yard and put into reverse it goes no problem, go down street them put in reverse it doesn't engage.

If it happens in all gears then the out put shaft is worn. If it only happens in reverse then find out from your cousin where he had it repaired from .It might be still under warranty. If not take it to a tranny repair shop sounds like oil pump in converter may be weak 0r reverse gear or its idler is worn.

It's actually your transmission fluid getting hot! Check trans. cooling lines going to radiator or aux.trans.cooler. Check fluid on dipstick with engine running, if you fluid is burnt looking not bright red anymore. Have your fliud flushed-changed and have service tech flush lines through radiator. You may solve problem this easy, but worse case senerio if it has done this for awhile you may need to rebuild trans. and get new cooling lines. My chrysler did the same thing but it cost me $1450.00 for the rebuilt trans.. After my trans. was rebuilt by the 35 years experianced shop,I found that the cooling lines were clogged and it burntout there fresh rebuild. The warranty I got paid for the second go around rebuilding trans.again. That company had to eat the costs. Now everything shifts great! Drove it on vacation! Make sure if you get trans. rebuilt they replace the governor sensor and solenoid sensor if your trans. is electronic like my 95 is.

first check the fluid, then the shifter connections at the trans, otherwise you will have to pull the pan to check interior linkage, but it should be under warrantee

I have a 2005 dodge caravan, the transmission keeps down shifting. It happened once before and the garage reset the computer, was fine for about 3 weeks. This time it seems to be happening more often.

you will have to check if the problem is the speed sensor or the trans computer. one of the two are bad it will ruin your transmission if not fixed

Possibly a shift control module. Your year vehicle may not have an accessible Powertrain Control Module. Might be an "upshift valve" that has either failed or gotten stuck. Might want to take it to a good trans shop.

1994 F350 transmission intermittent problem

I had the same problem in my 96 f-350. The transmission has slipped recording a slip code in the transmission. You can pull the codes and get it. I shifts into a safe mode that increases the pressure inside your transmission as part od a fail safe. Plain and simple, you have to have the tranny rebuilt.
