First of all your car shouldnot be overheating. if itis, check your antifreeze level in your radiator, for a leak, hose, water pump etc. termostat. And yes both fans should be on, that is controled by the pcm.For that is used a temperature sensor. and if the fan it never turns on check the fan and relay. electrical conection too. hope this will help you.

Radiator may be clogging up. Have you had it flushed ?

Over heating

usually overheating problem arises from radiator plz flush the radiator with the radiator cleaner available in the market with directons available. usually you shake the cleaner open the cap and pour the full content into the radiator and drive for few hours. leave it to cool and rince with fresh water a couple of times till the cleaner is totally removed.
also wash with high pressure water the fins of the radiator as it gets choked from flies and insects.
pour fresh coolant in the radiatorthe
the other reason for this heating could be faulty thermostat located at the lower portion of radiator which restarts the when the engine hear exceed the prescribed temperature and it ***** dow automatically when cools. it goes on.
WARNING:- RADIATOR FAN CAN START ANY TIME SO PLEASE KEEP YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM THEM AS THEY CAN SLICE YOUR FINGERS COMPLETELY.
other problem you can view is when the engine is cool and the radiator is cool open the radiator cap and then run the engine to see if air bubbles are visible- coming inside the radiator. if that is the case then you have to go to the workshop and get the engine overhead gasket replaced.
other problem could be traced like when you come home after a drive check all the wheels if any of them are heated up excessively they could heat like an electric iron so be careful if that is the case then get your brakes overhauled.
ecsessive gas charged in car ac will also heat the car.

How can i troubleshoot engine over heating

If the Fan is not working, check the radiator fan belt, (in some cars like Benz s500 yr 2000, it has it's own belt for sure), it might have been broken , check the fuse also, take your time to look on the connecting wires to make sure none is cut, that must solve the problem, your radiator must fan must be working.

My 1991 transport se is heating up and shutting down but it dosent show on temperature gauge

you have a few things going on... first your temp gauge needs to be replaced.
2nd if it is over heating enough to turn off then you might need to check, repair or replace the following items;
Thermostat Coolant water pump coolant hoses on both the top and the bottom of the radiator Fan clutch or Fan Radiator may have a hole or is bad (check to make sure that the fins on the outside are not bent or misshapen) if they are you can buy a tool to straighten them out at most auto parts places
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Why dose my car over heat

wow could be a lot of reasons depending on how long it takes to overheat. The following are some but more info needed so as to be precise in instruction and diagnosis.
1.Thermostat jammed shut(will heat very quickly and one hose will seem cold when radiator is hot).
2.Radiator blocked with rust etc inside from age or lack of good coolant inside.
3.The cooling fins all rotted away from radiator being old.
4.The fans not turning on when needed-either a sensor fault or fan dead.if it is a viscous type fan then it is not locking up when engine hot.
5.coolant leak and level low.
6.a blown head gasket.
7.fan belt running waterpump pulley is worn, loose or fallen off from breaking.
8.low oil level and dirty
9.waterpump impellor inside is rusted away or damaged
10.engine timing is seriously out .
and quite a few more reasons.
Try running your heater on full and the fan on maximun when it heats.Does this help cool it?if so get your radiator and cooling system cleaned out and recheck.
If it is cold to the vents, check your coolant level safely when it is cool enough to do this.
I hope these checks help you,or get back with your further findings from these checks

Radiator fan dose not work

This does not sound like a theremostate prblem but rather like the heat censor. You can locate this either on the rediator or the engine block (a small round part with one connecting wire.). Just replace the censor and the problem should be solved.

Before you go to the censor just chek the fuse.(usely under the steering on the right.)

Over heatting

If the water in the radiator isn't hot the thermastat may be sticking and not allowing the coolant to circulate as it should.
