Question about 2000 Ford Focus

I replaced battery first,...... then alternator on 2005 Focus. altenator was a bear to replace,.....still have(red) battery warning light,....... Thinking wiring,..corrosion...or tension pully is possible cause. Are there any relays or fuses that could take alternator off line?

The alternator is a doodle to change ,when you know how ?? was it a new recon unit or a secondhand scrapyard job---- check for power to teh large terminal the start engine and disconnect neg battery terminal if engine stops alternator fault ,if engine keep running but red light still on then its warning light control fault which is built into alternator so change alternator .

3 things can happen 1st the battery connections 2nd needed new battery and 3rd alternator is the least...any of this three are the problems of battery light on...aside from engine light on could be alternator but check it to AutoZone for a code..

That sounds like not the battery. It possibly the alternator.
-Use a volt meter to test when it's running. If it's below 13 volts
the alternator is bad.

Battery light and abs light is on and battery wont stay charged, new battery and altenator is good


This sounds like a bad alternator , maybe it charges at times and other times it does not, check connections to battery and at alternator, also make sure all fuse are good.

Battery light stays on


start engine and get someone to hold rpm at 1500 then disconnect battery and if engine stops replace altenator ,if it keeps going then warning light control is U/S but to repair will nesitate removing the altenator and stripping it to change the brush /regulator unit and this can cost nearly as much as a recon altenator ,if it charges then leave it alone it could run for 50.000 miles or more like this

Red battery warning light came on, have replaced battery. light still on and no power when going up hills.


this light means there is a problem with your charging system not your battery,the alternator is the culprit here,hope this helps

Curious what the output should be for alternator 2003 ford focus


SOUNDS LIKE AN ALTERNATOR PROBLEM THE SYSTEM IS NOT RECHARGING ITS SELF AS IT SHOULD AND THEREFORE IT IS DRAINING THE LIFE OUT OF YOUR BATTERY AND WILL EVENTUALLY KILL THE NEW BATTERY TOO.

2005 highlander battery light on after changing to new battery. Maybe alternator is bad already.


Hey there,

I gather the old battery was replaced because it was dead or dying.

Was the battery light on for that one too?

Is the belt around the altenator good?

Cables good? No breaks or frays?
Connectors clean and tight?

If you have a multimeter and are comfortable working under the hood with the engine running, you can check the altenator. Black wire to ground (any bare metal surface or the negative battery terminal) There is a single wire on the rear of the altenator. Red to this one.

An alternative:
Most auto parts stores have the facilities to do a bench check on your altenator. I recommend auto parts stores over a shop because their ulterior motives are trying to sell parts not service. They are less likely to 'Discover a Problem' that previously had no symptoms.

Also keep in mind, just because a battery is new, doesn't mean it's necessarily good. They can sit on the shelf for months, be dropped, whatever. The auto parts store can also perform a 'Load Check'. Voltage is one thing. A load check simulates the draw of a starter. No black magic, it's either Pass or Fail. Fail means replacement.

1999 hyundai code b1111 battery and alternator test good . dealer can not find anything wrong with battery or alternator but light comes back on every 20 miles or so


its the warning control light in the altenator.you will need to change the regulator in the altenator or replace altenator .best advice ??ignore it
