Question about Ford Taurus

1 Answer

2005 Ford Taurus 24V DOHC. Intermitten problems starting the car hot or cold. At times when you go to start the car it will sit there and crank and crank. Once started the guage cluster acts wierd. The guage pins bounce and make a clicking noise. The mileage doesn't show at first and the gas cap light and the brake light is on. If you turn the car off, it starts up fine the second time with no issues from the guages. The car does seem to start better when you turn the key and sit allowing the fuel pump to power up, then turn it over.

It is your ECM. The ECM controls everything that you are talking about. If it was just not starting right away, I would say that it was the fuel pressure regulator. And still could be. The fuel pressure regulator has a check valve in it. When the vehicle sits for a long time the fuel pressure regulator could be bleeding off pressure. That is why it would start faster if you let the fuel pump run for a short time before starting. But if the ECM is bad then that would cause the gauges to go crazy. And the ECM is what tells the fuel pump that there is enough pressure. So I would suggest a fuel pressure regulator first. Since it is a lot cheaper. But it is one of those two.

Does a 1996 mercury sable and 2001 ford taurus have the same engine

Its possible. In this time span Ford used two different motors, the overhead valve (OHV) Vulcan V6, and the Duratec 24V V6, which will bear the 24v DOHC badge on the front fender.

2002 ford taurus won't start at first crank in the morning

remove the air filter housing from the throttle body, or if its mult-ported injection, remove the large air duct. Do this the night before. The next day, before cranking and having a spray can of carb. cleaner, spray a couple of shots of carb cleaner either into the large air duct, spray towards the engine, or if its single body injection, spray directly on to the throttle body.

Crank engine immediately, preferrably have some one else sitting in the car to start it after you spray.

If the car even tries to start, replace cold start relay.

The circuit is expanding in hot wheather to the point where it is broken. In cold whether circuits and circuit boards contract slightly, reconnecting a weak solder point. Do you have an intermittant check engine light? Is it constantly on? If so new problems can arise, but the check engine light will not tell you about any new issues, it simply remains on. Get it diagnosed at any shop with any OBD2 interface to diagnose your cars specific issues. If not, just save time and replace the starter. It's probably different from engine to engine...you either have a 3.0 liter vulcan V6 or the zoomier 24 valve V6. Call the parts counter at any ford dealer and say the right things and the parts guy may tip you off on known issues. I had a 96 24v..it was a pile.
