Question about 1997 Mazda 626

1 Answer

Transmission slipping first to second gear

My transmssion has been slipping between 1st and 2nd gear, and other day had to have towed to transmission shop before shop was open.

They have not opened it up but say diaognostics indicate a problem between 3rd and 4th gear? Car has 155,000 miles on it.

They say 3 - 4 hours to get in and find out what the issues are?

And over the phone rough estimate $3000.00 to $4500.00 verbal rough quote?

Car is maybe worth $3500-$4500.00 if running condition.

Should I even let them open it up labour rates in this area are about $100.00 per hour.

Is it worth getting it opened up or should I see if can get a rebuilt transmission and replace?

This car has always shifted a bit hard.

any ideas

thanks,

Pat

Clutch starting to slip 1994 camaro can i adjust it

It does sound like your clutch needs replacing. Adjusting the clutch may help but will not solve the problem. If the transmission has not been serviced for a long time it is a good idea to replace the transmission fluid, inspect the pressure plate. They may also start to wear.

When hot trany will not work in all gears have just replaced filter gasket

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If you haven't replaced the transmission fluid recently then now is the time. If the fluid is burnt, the transmission tends to fail specially on hot temp. Please do check the transmission fluid first as a first course of action.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

I have a 1993 f-250 u have to manually shift to 1st to take off shift to 2nd and still in 1st gear. Shift to overdrive and transmission will shift through 2nd 3rd 4th and then to overdrive with no problem....

When was last trans fluid & filter change? Should be done every 30k/3 years or sooner of you do any towing. I'd start there and get it flushed thoroughly.

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan will not shif into 2nd

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

Transmission problem in E230 Benz

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

Yes, it could very well be a bad transmission.

1994 F350 transmission intermittent problem

I had the same problem in my 96 f-350. The transmission has slipped recording a slip code in the transmission. You can pull the codes and get it. I shifts into a safe mode that increases the pressure inside your transmission as part od a fail safe. Plain and simple, you have to have the tranny rebuilt.
