Question about 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

My engine light seems to come on when I 'floor' it. I have taken it to Auto Zone each time it comes on but they do not get any reading, it doesn't 'communicate' with their machine. About 15 minutes later the engine light goes off.

Check engine light comes on. Vehicle stalls . When computer ls reset vehicle runs fine.

This is most likely a faulty Throttle position sensor or MAF sensor. The problem is you can get the codes read if the vehicle won't make it to a shop that will read the code for you. Auto Zone will loan you a scanner tool but unless you can predict when that check engine light is going to come on it will be hit and miss until you can get the code. You can't really fix the problem correctly until you can identify which sensor is causing the fault. Next time you are on the road, as soon as that check engine light comes on if you are close to Auto Zone or Advance Auto or O'Reiley Auto parts store stop there and ask them to connect the code reader to the vehicle and tell you what the code is and what part it effects. They do this for free in most states.

The warning light that looks like an engine is lit up

That is your "Check Engine Light" / "Service Engine Light". It means the Computer (ECM / PCM / ECU, it goes by many names) has detected a problem with one or more parts on the engine or transmission.
The easiest way to find out, is to stop by an auto parts store (like Advance Auto, Auto Zone, etc) and have them hook up a Scan Tool to read the Trouble Codes from the ECM. They do that for free. Most if not all garages/mechanics also have the necessary Scan Tool as well, but most of those will charge you just to read the codes.

Next time that check engine light comes on stop at auto zone or advance auto and ask them to read the codes from your ECM. That will tell you where the problem is.

There is a check engine light coming on and I need to know what it is

The only way to know what FAULT CODE in there, is scanning your ECU; when you have this number code, tell us for other details.

Keep in touch.

Engine light on intermitting power loss

Take it to Advance auto or Auto zone, let them connect a scanner, (free of charge) , they can read the codes & most cases tell you what part or system is failing.

Service Engine Soon light - 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

The loose gas cap is a quick and easy check to perform, so try that first. The service engine light will remain on until the next "cold" start.
I would also recommend visiting your local Auto Zone and ask them to scan your car for trouble codes. They offer this service free of charge, write the codes down and respond back, I can let you know what they are and mean if you decide to have a technician fix the issue.
Good luck, let me know.

2004 Pontiac Bonneville Check Engine Light

do you fill the gas tank with the key on?

Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour an then reconnect and drive for 10 miles. It may run rough for this period. This will clear codes from memory.
