Question about 2008 Infiniti G37

2 Answers

Performance improvement I love my G37,however, the performance is not optimized. Under full acceleration, shift points are too high causing 8k plus revs and over shooting the max torque point. In general, is there a performance chip that will add hp and optimise shift points? If so,how do I get it?

I love my G37 , and i only have 6000 miles. My transmission has been making strange noises, and has been acting as if its been loosing power for months now. My transmission has now blown, and my vehicle will not drive. Infiniti says i misused the vehicle, and they will not replace it under warranty. The vehicle makes strange noises at high rpms, and it always shifts at 8000+rpm's in auto. Im in the process of taking legal action against Infinit, if anyone else is having problems with there transmission, please email me at

It is not supposed to shift at 8 grand, and at 60,000 your warranty is out

Take a look under all of these for your favorite.
Also try ebay. You want a DIRECT ECU wiring chip not a intake resistor. Should increase Horsepower and torque around 20%.

Not a problem just a question...

The cheapest would be a cold air kit (probably less than $200.00). It is easy to install, but won't quite get you there. The next is a better exhaust system (probably under $200.00). The other easiest modification is a performance chip or engine tuner, but they can be upwards of $300.00. A high performance coil, spark plugs & wires can help as well. The bad news is that each of these will make a minimal improvement by themself. Together they make a grand improvement. Everything is expensive.

I have a 2002 Celica GT 5-Speed and I shift at about 4k RPMs when getting on the highway and I still feel I'm accelerating to slow. Am i doing something wrong?

Not driving a corvette? Just kidding. More details are important. How slow is your acceleration? Is it 0-60 in 8 seconds, or 20 seconds? What is redline on your car? If redline is 5K then 4000 is a good responsible shift point. If redline is 8K then shifting at 4000 is probably robbing your engine of it's torque and horsepower band. I believe the GTS model has an 8K RPM redline, the GT may be lower, but in that case, shifting at 4K is too soon for strong acceleration. Your Tachometer should have redline clearly marked. For responsible use, stay below that, maybe 10-20%. For economy stay further still, but for power you need to let the engine use it's RPMS, especially smaller and fewer cylinder engines usually don't make their power until they are half way through the RPM range and above.

I have a switch on shifting consol says normal or perf. what

It's a switch that slightly changes shift points. In performance , the trans shift at a slightly higher rpm and in normal......shifts a bit lower rpm and also better fuel economy.

My 86 b 2000 is now 25 yrs old and doesn't require emission any more ,can i buy a different carb. and exhaust manifold and if i can whats the best carb and manifold do i use?

I didn't know anybody even used carburetors after 1982. By that time, it was cheaper and easier to meet clean air standards with fuel injection, and if done right, fuel injection provides better performance anyway. You can tweak performance with different manifolds, improved exhaust piping and possibly a turbocharger. There may be a "high-performance" ROM chip for your engine computer; this permits a greater fuel delivery under acceleration conditions.

Note: some smaller engines used a single throttle body injector rather than one for each cylinder. Theoretically you could replace this with a carburetor, but modifying the engine controls to work correctly with it would be a nightmare.

How can you tell what trans is in 01 grand cherokee laurado 4.0

Here is an article I found talking about the Transmission. The second generation Grand Cherokee: 1999-2004 Jeep WJ The first Grand Cherokee was redesigned in 1999, for lower production cost and greater performance and reliability; it was Chrysler's first use of an electronic bus to replace individual wires throughout the body.

Jeep five-speed automatic transmission

An all-new, electronically-controlled transmission with five forward ratios including an alternate second gear ratio for improved performance for passing and better fuel economy is available with the V-8 only, and was designed specifically for Jeeps.

The transmission features unique characteristics such as a tall, 3.00:1 first gear that gives the driver better initial acceleration. Real-time driver adaptive shifting fine-tunes the shift pattern to the driver, while an alternate second gear ratio gives the driver five forward ratios. During acceleration, second gear has a ratio of 1.67. Depending on speed and throttle position, both this gear and an alternate 1.50 second gear ratio are available for kick-down operation, making the down-shift smoother. Its reverse gear ratio is equal to the first gear ratio, to allow for heavier loads.

Other features include three planetary gear sets that combine the widest range of gear ratios available in any transmission in its class. Combined with precise step selections, this brings smooth shifts and maximum power and optimal fuel economy.

The transmission is built at the Indiana Transmission Plant in Kokomo, Indiana, in an all-new 1.2-million square-foot (110,000 m2) facility.

Hi ! I have a Holden Barina (1993 MH model) which is a Suzuki Swift rebadged. It loves to rattle when I accelerate, go up a hill and when under load. It doesn't rattle when its cold and when going...

Try some engine cleaner and that will help improve rough idle and or performance. To me it sounds like a possible motor mount issue. Sounds like the front engine mount. Because you explained up a hill rattle. / Down Hill\ no rattle. Engine lifts when going up hill and shifts downward while going down hill. hence no vibration because of gravity pull and the weight of the engine.

With normal acceleration the 1st to second shift point should be around 2500-3000 rpm. Most of your shifts under moderate acceleration will take place at this same point or when there a light load on the transmission. Under hard acceleration the RPMs will climp higher due to increased power needs and the computer will shift when less power is needed or the RPMs climb to an unsafe speed say5000-6000rpms (depending on where yours redlines). Also going up a steep hill will raise the RPMs higher and goind down a hill will cause a faster shift at lower RPMs. These can always be altered by an individual owner by adjusting shift points, using performance parts and if you have problems (low tranny fluid/trans issues). Your trans RPMS are fine and will vary depening on how your foot accelerates. The shift pattern should be the same every time you drive slow/medium/fast/, look for changes in those patterns you will also catch a problem early.

Hi,I would get the codes checked, possibly a faulty TPS or just that silly multi plug near the firewall RHS.

What type of gas should i use in a 2005 lincoln navigator?

HI. i recommend using the premium in this vehicle. This will ensure optimal performance. The fuel system will accept the regular blend as well but, this is not what this vehicle was engineered for. the regular blends octane level is not sufficient for optimal acceleration and overall performance.

Please rate and god bless:)

Have 2004 V-8 Touareg. Can the transmission shift points be reprogrammed to shift at lower rpm's at slower speeds, currently it will not shift until 2,700 to 3,000 rpms. This feel very high under slow to...

you can go through the ecm and reconfigure the trans control module, however there could be an underlying reason for you high shift points. it could be that you have a faulty engine speed sensor which sends the signal to the ecm to operate your transmission. my advice would be to check for any loose connections first. also your shift points are set to the power curve of your engine so if your having to throttle it to a higher degree it could be that the performance of your engine is not what it should be. if you can give me some more background on your vehicle i can evalueate it further
