Question about 1999 Volkswagen Passat

4 Answers

P1545 code I will start with the first problem. It started with random misfires now and then. I pulled the codes and got. P10303. I checked the coil and there was no spark on #2. I then changed #2-coil pack with a spare and there still was no spark. Changed the ICM and now all the cylinders are working. Now the car runs but it hesitates badly at about 2000 to 3000 rpm and has no power, When I rev it past 3000 rpm it will run smooth but when you let off the gas it sound like it wants to stall but recovers and idols at about 700 RPM. I disconnected the battery for about an hour and then reconnected it and turned on the ignition to accessory mode and waited for the throttle controller to reset. It made one noise from it's motor and then it quitted down. It is still having the same bogging issue. I am getting a P1545 code. Can you Please help!

You are going to need to have the throttle adapted to the computer. it is common after replacing the ignition module to clear up a misfire.

Sounds like an air flow problem and your fault code points to lean mixture when you take the fuel filler cap off is there a hiss ? if yes change your fuel filter, if no try the air flow sensor

Did you try replacing the spark plug wires? They might be old/ frayed/ crimped. Otherwise check your intake valves for correct compression and sealing. A bad seal can cause lack in power at low RPMs.

Has p0300 code misfire cyl 2 and 3

If it was just cylinder 2 or 3, the code would be 0302 or 0303. Instead, you have random misfires (probably) such that you should be checking things that affect the whole engine. Vacuum leaks, bad plug wires, bad coil(s) or ignition module are most likely, but even clogged exhaust, O2 sensors and bad battery can cause these problems. Yes, a battery can be good enough to start your car but still be bad enough to affect performance. If I had to guess, I would start by testing the ignition module. Most parts stores can test this if you remove it and carry it to them.

2002 Envoy sle 4.2 L straight 6. Random misfire(PO300). After erasing codes for several days, I finally took my car on the highway and ran it at high speed(70+) for about 4 to 5 miles. Check engine light came on as before but this time it gave me(PO305). Random misfire cylinder 5. So I switched coil 5 with coil 2. Went back out on the highway and repeated as before. This time it gave me(PO302). This was telling me I had a bad coil. Replacing one coil pack solved the problem. The professionals told me low fuel pressure would not give me random misfire, but rather a O2 code because the engine is running lean. Thank you------------------------------------ thank you very much.

I would start with the inlet manifold gasket, these are know to break down causing vacuum leaks which can cause this issue, also check around engine for other vacuum leaks

what type/size of engine? what year model truck? several things to check for a random misfire. also , how many miles on the truck? coils are a possibility but they usually set specific cylinder misfires if it is equipped with coil on plug ignition system. a vacuum leak or low fuel pressure can cause a random misfire. also broken valve spring can cause the misfire because it effects the engine vacuum.

Hello I have a1997 xk8 runs great but my check eng. light came on and the code that it read was a misfire code were do I start troubleshooting.

If it was a specific misfire code go to that cylinder and check the following: plug, wire, and coil, if it is a random misfire code, start by checking your spark plugs(including the gap), plug wires, and coil packs.
