If you live in high country your carb is jetted to rich for the thin air. You will probably have to experiment with the jetting if you can't use the ones out of the original carb. The Idle Mixture screws are located on the side of the valve body just behind the float bowl unless you have a pollution controlled carb and they are sealed behind a soft lead plug which can be drilled out to access mixture screws. When adjusting idle mixture screws remember--- A little goes a long way

I need to know what size of carburetor i need for a 1978 chevy with a 350 engine?

This is a complicated question. It depends on how you plan to drive the car.
A 500 cfm Holley would probably be more than enough unless you are using the car on a track.
300 cfm can probably work but may not give you much more performance than a stock Quadrajet.
Holley is the best for modifying a carb to a specific engine. You can pick the jets and other parts to your needs.
Quadrajet was stock on GM.

You have two setting screws on front of carb, You start off by adjusting all the way to the left, Then back off 3/4 turn to both setting screws, Then you have to set your air fuel mixture by just slowly turn your setting clock wise do so until vibration go away. Sorry there is no easy way to explain, Good luck to you,

Need new carburator its a motorcraft D7DE RB J 7A 3 where can i find it

The only way I found it was to cross reference you code on the Holley website

Go to www.holley.com
You can call them as well and give them that code, and they can find you one. Unfortunately that was the only place I found it. Thats a hard one. Sorry.

Just installed a holley 600 carb on a stock 305 Chevy truck 4 barrel is opening up but motor is bogging down should I go with hotter plugs advance timing or what?

Actually a Holley 600 is just a little too much for a stock 305. It would be better suited for a stock 350. You might try to lean the mix down a bit and reset the float a little higher. Holleys are good about dumping excssive fuel into the cylinders thus causing pitting on the cylinder walls. It would not hurt to advance the timing a couple degress then.

Holley carburetor 750 free tune ,rebuild and diagram manual jet sizeing and explanation of how to select the right jets

What you need can't be described here.It would take hours to type. You need a manual. Your best bet would be to check with Haynes. Chilton or Motor have a good rebuild section in their yearly manuals and it covers Holleys with the specs for your vehicle. You should be able to find one relatively cheap on e-bay or kijiji. There was a company called Pederson Publishing that put out a book on Holley's a few years ago but I don't know if they are still around. I suspect you could get good info from Holley too but none of it will be free. Hope this helps.

Looking for baseline jetting for holley 850 cfm dp carb

Baseline would all depend on what its going on big block or small block if its a small block a 850 is too much carb. because you have to jet it down so far to get it to run right and not foul the plugs because of to much gas unless its built 650 or 750 would be the right carb for the street you can start with 70 in front and 72 in rear is a good starting point, the thing to do is get a jet kit from holley and experiment with it.

83 ford f-250 351. starts but will not idle

If its a (holley) motorcraft 2 bbl carb sounds like the power valve. They typically blow out whenever the engine backfires or they just wear out after time and flood the idle circuit.

Strong order of gas fumes and black residue on spark plugs

The jets in the carb are too big for a 302 with a stock cam. Take it to a carb shop and have them replace the jets with stock jets. (Or DIY and hope). Whne you converted from FI to carb did you replace fuel pump to get correct 7 1/2 psi pressure at carb inlet? FI pumps put out 50+ psi and a regulator maintians pressure at the injectors on the order of 35 psi.. Of course, that much pressure would force inlet needle valve out of it's seat and would probably flood carb totally, but, check the fuel pressure at the carb just to be sure. Good luck. 302's rule!!!!
PS - Check cam specs - FI engine has different cam - intake duration is longer if I remember correctly. Been a while since I got inside an engine...
