Unfortunately if this is a 3.1 v6 it has no dip stick. Another one of GM's famous trouble free mistakes. Located on the drivers side of the vehicle underneath the master cylinder you will find a red cap. That is the tranny filler access point, but it has no gauge to check the level. Take it to a shop to have changed.

I would start by checking the fluid level and it wouldn't hurt to change the trany filter in the trany pan. You can get thoughs kits at the auto parts store. Make sure you buy enough fluid to fill the trany after filter replacement.

For a 2002 Ls, checking the trany fluid must be done on a lift, theres a level checking and also adding plug on the bottom of the trany, even to add fluid you will need a pump to pump fluid into bottom of the trany pan, theres no dip stick on these cars, and car must be level. you can try doing this on the ground , you will see the plug on the trany pan, you remove the allen screw, size 3/16 allen key, and fluid should drain out, you should see a stream and that means its full, heres a few diagrams of the trany check plug, good day,johnjohn2_121.gifjohnjohn2_122.gifjohnjohn2_123.gif

Okay, this truck doesnt have a normal dip stick to check the fluid in trany,to check the trany fluid level engine must be warm and parked on level ground, being on level ground is important!, next start engine and move slector through all gears and ending in park, put ebrake on and let engine idle, then remove the check plug from the bottom of trany pan, note theres a drain plug and the level plug heres a diagram to help you locate the right plug, remove the plug with engine idling and the fluid should leak out, the fluid will stop when level is correct if the plug is removed and no fluid leaks out then add some until it drips out level hole.johnjohn2_50.gif

Vw jetta 98 revs shoots up after driving for a few kms


You will need to have the trany checked it may be low on fluid, theres a way of checking the fluid, i would have a job check it or if it a standard shift then the clutch may be slipping and need to be replaced but if its automatic trany then i would have the fluid checked i have run into this problem a few times and it was due to a leak a small leak in the trany oil and when the fluid got low the trany would slip and in some cases not shift or move. hope this is helpful, good luck.

Check transmission light on, overdrive light flashing . 2000 windstar, 90,000 miles


Check the trany fluid,Check it whith engine running and warm. You may need to replace the trany filter and fluid.

Could be, how is the trani fluid level and color? Trani fluid should be changed every 20k miles. Was the trani fluid serviced recently, if so can you verify that the correct trani fluid type was used?

The automatic transmission fluid goes in the same place where the Trani dipstick is.. It is called the filler tube.. Just use a funnel..

When checking the fluid - have the engine running in park..
Trani fluid is measured in pints not quarts on the dipstick..

The shifting problem might not be from low Trani fluid.. It could be caused by other things..

IF the fluid is low - that could cause the trani to slip and cause internal damage..

95 olds cutlass ciera 3.1 v6 torque contverter lock up (or seems to be rpm increases) disengages on highway speed what is the cause or defects that you may know?


Could be TCC lock-up switch faulty. Trany pump might be going out. New torque converter? If you have put a new converter on an old unrebuit trany the old cruddy fluid will contaminate the new converter and could cause pump failure. This can happen vise- versa too. New trany with an old converter will wreck the new trany with left over old trany fluid. Check to see if there any codes being set. A local parts store can check. Call you local dealer to see if it is a known issue or recall.

Its slipping ? Like the engine rpms go up and no go ?
Check the trani fluid - while the car is running in park..
Trani fluid is messured in pints on the dipstick - not quarts.. Be careful not to over fill..
Note; If trani is low on fluid to long and slipping to long - it is causing damage..

Where is the oil pan on a 99 rodeo? i went to change the oil and im not sure but it really looked like transmission fluid when i dropped it


If the fluid was redish - you probably drained the trani fluid.. Trani fluid has to be checked while the engine is running & is messured in pints (not quarts) on the dipstick..
The oil pan is locaed close to center bottom of the engine.. The trani pan is either to one side of the oil pan or behind it tward the back & is flatter looking in shape - than the oil pan..
