Who ever is charging that kind of money to rebuild a tranny should be in prison. It's illegal to rob a bank, but ok to rob someone if you run a garage.
My advice is to find a used one at an auto wrecker, and have someone install it. You can probably get the transmission for a couple hundred bucks, and it wil be better that any rebuilt anyway. Rebuilt never last.

My 2002 Ford Escape has issues when its cold. When I first start and try to go into reverse is basically wont go. I have learned to park facing out and let it worm up for a while. It will also slip when...

Have the transmission serviced, Change the transmission fluid and filter and have the transmission shop check for any codes and see what the line pressure is at. I fluid could just be dirty and the servos could be sticking due to the dirt. "metal and clutch wear" try adding some transmission additives to loosen up the dirt and then have the transmission service after 100 miles of driving. Service intervals for your transmission should be no more then two years or 36,000 mile to keep the servos from sticking which the cause transmission failure. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted, be glad to answer any more questions you may have.

Service intervals on a 2005 escape

The tune up is every 100,000 / The transmission and fuel filter is every 30,000 / The air filter is as needed depending on the driving conditions or every 12,000 / Oil changes every 3000 to 5000 miles
